What do you use to lite small subject in your house? A desk lamp, window light? I am having some trouble with lighting. Maybe if I get some ideas I can inprove.

I use flash alot: one Canon 420EX and one 550EX with umbrellas and light stands, fired off by a ST-E2 (wireless transmitter). A bit overkill but very flexible.

You can also get a desk lamp with a flexible neck, maybe two. I think Konador and Blemt us them very effectively.

I suppose it depends on what effect you are trying to catch.

I've used simple Maglite flashlights, 500W spotlights, 1.5Million CW concentrated flood lights, window lighting, flash, a pair of Alien Bees 800's, etc. It depends if I want over lighting, underlighting, backlighting, side, bounced, area, spot, indirect, etc. Each will give the shot different aspects.

In short, you can never have enough lighting alternatives.

Ott-lites are great for natural sun like effects, you can find them in most craft stores, like Michaels or Joann's, use those coupons in the paper.
