I find myself scrambling to get some entries into a local open exhibit - only have a couple of days to get them printed/framed because I have to go out of town and they are due when I get back. I can enter two, with the possibility of only one being shown so have to pick two then rate them first choice, second choice. Can you help me decide? here are the choices:
I like the garden photo, but have the feeling something about it isn't right - maybe not sharp enough?
Any input appreciated - positive or negative - I respect your opinions!

I like the first one best.
Garden one is good, but too busy if you blow it up to anything larger. |

I like # 1 and 4 the best but I am told that red abstracts do not score well in contests. Go with your favourites then at least you are being honest to your own tastes. Sorry I cant be of more help. Good luck.

Hi BJ
I'll offer a one word description in my oppinion,
1 the garden - enchanting
2 the sepia flower - soothing
3 the fall sky - typical
4 the red apple - fake
GOOD LUCK!

No theme in particular - open to any 2 or 3 dimensional entries. Thanks for taking the time to look at my portfolio and the compliment! I will definately consider that one. Only problem is it's a 12x12 and I have a hard time finding frames where I live for that size.

If you're doing this for yourself no. 1, 2 & 3, you should choose what you are most interested in seeing at the exhibit yourself, but if you are happy with all of the four then it's a good idea to pick two and enter them and let the others that pick out the entered photos decide which will fit better in the exhibition. If there's only one that you want to see in it, then just enter that one. Good luck! |

My advice (for what it's worth) is to follow your own instincts. There will alwatys be a more perfect sunset shot or a sharper macro than you can produce.
Be different and express your own vision.
In my opinion, this is the best image on this site.
It does not strive to perfect a genre, it stands on it's own.
Your "Blue Persuasion 2" is similar.
Don't try to gratify the judges...challenge them

Thanks for all the good advice. And that is a great image - I missed that one. And I agree - I guess I like to push the envelope a little bit - I figure I will never take the best sunset shot, etc., no matter how hard I try, but maybe I can put an original spin on shots that people may like:) I just never know if my spin is good or not so I tend to try to go back to traditional type of photos - with your encouragement I think I will try a little more of the experimental type shots as well as the traditional:)

BJ, if you want to throw another abstract into the exhibit, why don't you use that fruit one (with the green and yellow if I remember correctly). That is just awesome IMO.
Good luck by the way :-) |

This is the one you're thinking of- I don't know why I didn't include that - it would work well to put in two abstracts, or two floral, etc. I just realized most people do put two of the same types of photos. I think it would be okay to put two of completely different color schemes? Since there is no particular theme, or should I try to keep two "like" photos? (I'm not sure I really have two totally "like" photos:))
