Hi-ho,

I've been taking photos of derelict houses near our place for a while, and took this one earlier in the year:

Lounge Room

That was the before, and, well, this is the after..

Burnout

The local fire brigade used it as a training fire, and it's now a pile of smoking ash.

I took this shot about two hours ago, while keeping warm in the glow of the fire.

I think this came out really well with the mixed light. The lights on the digger, the fire and the residual sunlight from the set sun..

What do you think? Any and all feedback welcome.

BTW, The digger was pushing some hedges and other material onto the fire, and clearing a strip around the burn area to make sure it dosn't spreak into near by fields etc.

Nice!! Very dramatic with the digger on one side and fireman on the other. Great colours too. What camera settings were you using Chris?

Would have made a great night shots pic.

Hi-ho,

Hand held, Apeture priority F/2.0, ISO200, -1.3 stops compensation. Got me 1/8th of a second... From memory I locked the focus to manual on the chimney as the AF was having problems with the flames flaring up all over the place, and I kept getting focus lock way too close.

I also had the lens adaptor on and a 58mm UV filter to keep the dust/smoke out off the lens.

Post editing I blurred the sky a wee bit, and USM'd the chimney and the other 'rubble' in the fire.

And I've got some bad news, there is no fireman, you really shouldn't surf the web at 6am :-).

I didn't get there till the main fire was over, although I could see the flames from our house though (About 2k's away, over open fields). The fire trucks were just leaving when I pulled up.

Hmmmm, it would have made a great night shot. Must remember that when Night II comes around, and get them to burn down another house :-).

Cheers, Me.

Just a self-inflicted bump, looking for some comments (anything.. :-) ) on the fire pic..

I would say it has proper exposure time, nothing really in dark black shadows and most of the things that need to be visible are visible. On the downside it looks as if the picture is not completely in focus. Especially the foreground. I would probably go for a higher f/ number and higher ISO, but without the negative EV values. HTH.
