I'm sitting on 3.9something and the only comment I get is one who says they dont understand my image. Perhaps my sense of humour is not universal.us Kiwis can be a funny lot, and I thought everyone might get the point. As homer puts it DOH.!!!

I say you give it a few more days and people will start having a second look. On the first run most people don't take the time to think about the images. When it pops up, they make a decision.

Well, I don't think I am getting too many 1s as mine is still hanging around my target score.

Humour is in the eye of the eye of the beholder. I learned that the hard way with my first challenge. Just got to remember our fellow photographers in the northern hemisphere may view things a little differently to us kiwis down here. My last challenge started about the same as yours & finished not much more above it. In my case it got what it deserved. Hope yours doesnt go the same way :)

Don't feel so all alone. I thought I would try to not involve my sense of humor in my shots as much for the same reason (lack of understanding by the unwashed masses toward my wonderfully ironic sense of humor). Unfortunately, it still creeps in and devastates me occasionally.

Don't let it get you down and keep your funny bones tingling.

No, there's enough sleepers in the challenge!

I hesitate to share my failed attempt at humor, but here it is.

It takes its place as my lowest scoring image, and the only one below 5.0.

I've wondered if it would have met the challenge better with a promisory/engagement ring instead -- or if it would have been received better if I had used a female model (dressed for a night on the town with the girls) slipping the box into her purse as she went out the door (...just in case).

**shrug** I didn't expect it to do well, but it was interesting to see the responses.

I guess it is true, there is no accounting for taste. ;)

My humorous shots haven't done so well. Either I offended in the case of the second thumnail, or folks just didn't get the humor (in the case of the first).

Nobody at all seemed to get that I was subtly spoofing DPC insect shots with my Chocolate entry.

and my Feet entry was a desperation throw-away. I knew the humour was too personal for most people to relate to (although a few people found it funny).

I was going for humor with my Color Purple shot as well but I never really got the capture I was looking for and I was using a camera which was going on the fritz focus-wise. For example, the CC member who reviewed it thought the subject was wearing a red bandana when in reality she has magenta-dyed hair in pigtails. I was trying to get a shot that made it appear the mural figure was looking askance at my daughter's wild hair. I had to shoot around passing cars from across two lanes so it was rather difficult.

I like humorous shots more when they are accidental (or at least appear to be). I'm not nuts about set-up situations.

Good artists communicate their idea/thoughts, whether it be about culture, attitude, whatever.

If people didn't get, probably means you didn't communicate the idea very well.

Probably.

That is a very fair comment why is it I get my best ideas after the challenge ends and before voting begins?

I have done pretty well with humor, but since everyone love a train wreck, these are my stinkers. :)

I put some humour in my shoot and i think its fairing well - anyway itz going for my highest score record - no ribbon :p

I think the rule is to keep it simple and try to think in the way of the international sense of humour (everyone will find it funny)

Humour is universal but it must be generalized for all to get

eg -
Robbin William Stand-up shows
Eddy Murphy Stand-up shows

try to pursue your humour away from politics and your country's culture into the popular culture of the world and most importantly humor which relates to your daily life eg Everybody Loves Ramond & The Simpsons

The Simpsons have been around for along time and will be around for much longer -I think if you can figure out there formula, you should be able to achieve something that appeals to all-
