Also,we will have the photographs snapped at the wedding forwarded to the Publisher of a Magazine Company in U.K so they could feature it in their celebrity Magazine. At this moment,my fiancee and i are on our way to Holland for a 4 weeks prewedding honeymoon and will try get in touch with you personally when we return. However,I will be making the payment by means of a Cashiers Cheque.Let me have your full names,Address,Phone Number,Cellular Number where a Cashiers Cheque will be mailed to for the payment.Moreso, should you be out of state, the Hotel accomodation will be provided for by me.Waiting to read from you soon as regards this.

Proceed with caution, it may be legit, but could be something else also.

Follow your gut instinct.
But if you need to check into it further, why not contact the church?

"Names"?! How many people are you? The only thing he hasn't asked for, yet, is your SS# so he can employ you.

Why doesn't he know where you live?
Disclaimer: I'm a hard-core sceptical cynic who's easily taken advantage of because, in the past, I haven't had the sense to ask questions. It seems to me, you're negotiating a contract for employment. Treat it with that level of seriousness and professionalism. And if you miss out on a trip to the lovely town of East Liverpool, OH...oh, well. It beats a trip to the credit fraud bureau.

Always meet in person
Always accept cash only
you get there number and contact them
Perform background check
If and only when you have done what i said
(probally a few more steps i missed out)
It should be alright - otherwise it sounds like a scam

This is a SCAM, check out this thread in the wedding photographer forum at fredmiranda.com
Scam
If you were to follow up, this is how the scam will go: they will likely want you to accept a cashier's check from someone else who supposedly owes them money, this check is written for much more than what you charge. You are supposed to deposit this check in your account and then wire transfer them the extra money. The catch is that the check is a phony and by the time you and your bank are onto it, the money you wired to them is long gone.

eg - you charge $1000 they give you $3000 ask you to wire back $2000
In which case the bank finds out that the checks were fraud but wait shit: you already had wired $2000 out of your account into theres and worst you now owe the bank $2000 and now you can't buy that brand new camera you were after :(
I say send them back a virus :)

You could just mess with them, like this guy
Harry Blumpkin
Some damn funny (and kinda scary stuff).
What's amazing to me is that anyone ever goes for this crap, but some suckers must or the perpetrators wouldn't keep going. |

Good thing you asked about it! Scary stuff.
Anyway, here is a counterscamming technique. This is the funniest thing I've seen for a long time. I laugh about it periodically whenever I remember it.

well unless your a "saught" after wedding shooter....I think this is far from making any sense.! The scam is that they'll need your CC number to place along side the 'hotel' reservations for the incidentals.....so you'll need to email them your CC info !! hehehehe

1. Contact the church and see if there is a wedding planed for that day.
2. I looked at your website and you have wonderful photographs but I don̢۪t see any thing that suggest you are into wedding photography or have any experience. [I done a quick through of your site, if I missed your wedding photography or experience, I̢۪m sorry]
3. Why would he want your information up front. He should send you his information.
4. Sounds like a big event, which in most cases the groom/family, has a coordinator for this.
5. If it were such a big event why would they go on a 4-week honeymoon without all details finalized first?
6. The author seems to be from the UK by the spelling of some words [coloured, cheque]. Now you have an overseas transaction. Again making me believe a big event. The 150 copies is another reason I say big event.
7. IMO I would be very cautious!

This is the funniest thing I have read in a long time. I was laughing at both the photos and text. The guy has a very creative imagination to lead him along like that. |

Well, what I don't understand, and doesn't seem to be demonstrated there, is 'how is he sure' that it's a scam? That guy sent pics of himself. Wouldn't that tempt arrest?
Is what the "baiter" doing illegal also? After all, he's impersonating someone too.

Listen, if the dude sends you a cheque and it doesn't bounce, than do it. There's nothing wrong with that. Just because his grammar isn't the best and he may not know anything about how the biz works.
The big BUT here is that he's assuming in your wedding price that he'll be legally entitled to give your photos to the publisher. The charge for that is up to you but definetly not included in your regular package price.
Edit: I'm not saying it's NOT a scam, I'm just saying don't write it off. He could be a big oil tycoon from Saudi Arabia.
Edit2: Just checked out your website and I didn't see any wedding photos on it, so yeah, that makes the whole thing suspicious.
