Sorry to preach, but why doesn't everyone who can't get their card right ask a professional to look at it - just like you'd ask a mechanic to fix your car or plumber to fix a leak. People get trained in this kind of thing so that you don't end up looking like a half-hearted, amateurish cowboy 'havin' a go' at photography.

If you're going pro as a photographer (or any other profession) it's definitely going to be worth looking your best. A business card is actually one of the most important documents a person or company distributes since it performs the role of sales person in the absence of human assistance.

Doesn't have to cost a lot - especially if you're on a budget - and most designers would do a favour of some kind for some good word of mouth.

PS. this is not directed at any particular post.

This must be why my car doesn't run and all of my pipes leak. LOL!!!

Ah, yes, I see. Actually - I've undersold my trade with those analogies.

What I meant to say was: "...just like you'd ask a brain surgeon to suture billions of inticate elements of your crazed matter together, or a chef to painstakingly prepare the tastiest dish of your entire life...".

I like it a lot better than your previous one, the text is much easier to read. Two things that come immediately to mind: what color is the background? On my monitor, it's not quite black but it seems darker than gray. I would be worried that it would look like poorly printed black on a card; I think I'd boost it all the way to black. The other thing is the text which isn't quite regular but not quite italic either. It makes it look a little skewed to me. Personally, I'd prefer to see just a straight, regular font.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the comment on the font. I agree and am going to change that.

About the colors being not quite right. They look awesome in Photoshop. The background is 100% black but when I save as a JPG file it for some reason looks like the colors change slightly. I think it is because I am working in Photoshop in a CMYK color format. Could that do it? I guess vista prints want them to be submitted to them in CMYK. If anyone has suggestions about this I would like to hear them.

Thanks!

Yes its getting much better...
Also im curious how girl would look in black and white.
And one more thing... didnt saw the card in natural size so hard to tell about font size... you are sure its not getting too small?

That card looks pretty nice, and I think the font size is just big enough. I do suggest setting up the gallery page hosting the full-sized image with a neutral gray background; it's a little harder to judge it on the black background with borders.

Personally, because of my red-green colorblindness, I find the red type on black just a bit hard to read, especially in low lighting conditions. If that red is not already your "corporate color," I would suggest using a more contrasty shade, or possibly use a light drop-shadow or outline (which risk excessive busy-ness).

A good way to test the readability of the card is to view the entire finished image in grayscale mode -- after all, hopefully someone you do a job for will be photocopying it to give to a friend who needs a photographer ...

Okay, try these. Here are several different versions. I updated the font to a plain Arial Round.

Full Color

Model 50% Desaturated

Model 100% Desaturated

Entire Card 100% Desaturated

I think this is one design that I am going to go with in the full color version. Let me know what you guys think now.

Thanks!

Have you tried looking at any of these at the final size yet - it might look okay at 2x size, but all that text may start to look quite busy when you shrink it to business card size.

hard to believe there is seven pages of this nonsense!

business cards are not billboards, your name, your company name your phone number and try and exhibit some design skills, put all the other crap on the back of it!

I noticed that your card sports a child, which is a beautiful portrait, but in your wording, "weddings, sports, special events" come before "portraits". You might want to change the wording or the picture according to what you want to emphasize.
Also, all the text except the top line is white. Try adding the grey color or the text font to one more area so that it's more connected throughout the card.

Your right. A good, well designed, business card is your first 'marketing tool'.

anything that advertises you is important for first contact with a client..

by the way the general rule in the print world is: spend as much as you can on the artwork, and then get a middle of the range printer you stuff will still look good. no matter how much you spend on the print, pap artwork will still look pap, just expensive pap ;)

thanx for the comments on the cards :)

here is the full range of back's
