I'm floating around in the Denver metro area. Have been trying to work some time to make it up in the Mountains before it starts closing more and more of itself off with snow, it's pretty unlikely however. My time is unfortunately at a premium right now.

| I'm hanging out waiting to see what the new challenge is. Didn't have anything for Night Shots -- hoping for something more inspired for the next one. |

| Yeah, kinda what I'm doing as well. I had ideas for night shots, but chose different activities the last few nights preventing me from entering. I may go out and do it anyway, my current free challenge entry is while I feel it's good, it's missing the POW that I would normally want in that unspecific a challenge. |

| I shot my Free Challenge on the 2nd and haven't had anything I loved as much since but Night Shots was harder. It's hard to get inspired when you have to take kids with you or trying to find something worth shooting between pick up at gymnastics and school meetings. |

nope...it's 95 but I like to take it slow.
I go to colorada at least 4 times a year to see my family and friends. That would be awesome to get together with you all. |

I can understand, while I'm not distracted by kids, we've just had a few weeks of business in a row. I MIGHT be able to sneak out this upcoming weekend to actually realize my idea (good or bad) but even here being only Sunday night of this week, I don't see it happening. I'm hoping for something that fits my schedule this week to be the next challenge.
I lived in WY for a year not all that long ago, and amusingly, I could have done half the challenges I haven't entered if I was still up there, I miss the lack of civilization. |

| Let us know the next time you're in town -- we can go play. It would be fun. I'm hoping for something that fits into my life as well. Although the school challenge should fit right in -- i'm having trouble getting inspired |

Getting blocked off by the snow? Get ye some snowshoes!! Great fun!
I am still trying to decide for the free study myself. Shot a bunch throughout the mountains and plains, but not happy, yet. Thought I had a great one for Night Shots, but getting killed right now. All the 1 and 2 voters from the "not after dark" thread earlier are up. Even though it is shot at 11pm.
I would love to try to get the the Sand Dunes during a time of snow. That would be cool! Been going down to visit my Dad in albuquerque every other week, since he was put in Hospice care. So...need to take a detour one of these times.

| Being raised in CA has so far limited my snow-playing to places near to indoors. :) I'm getting more and more used to the cold, so may pick up a pair of snowshoes this winter if I can get some time put aside to use them. |

That's quite a drive -- my thoughts are with your dad.
I've never been to the dunes. My parents were just there and loved it. They also did a train ride in that area, came back with some great photos. So many things to do -- so little free time! |

Robert -- I grew up in CA also. Would love to tell you that you'll get use to the cold but... I've been here longer than I care to admit and dread January every year. |

If any of you do decide to go to the Sand Dunes please let me know - I live very near there in La Jara which is 15 miles south of Alamosa. We've been there often as we live here.
The Cumbres Toltec train finished for the season this weekend. It leaves from Antonito which is 15 miles south of us. It is a beautiful ride. I've taken quite a few pictures of that train for challenges. It goes through some scenic country.

| Sammie, how is that drive from Sant Fe up through Antonito and Alamosa? That a decent highway. Scenic, I heard. Been on it many times as a kid, but don't remember it. |

It's a nice drive. From Santa Fe to Espanola is very busy - they are working on the road and it has really been growing, there is hardly any open space between SF and Espanola anymore.
From Espanola to Antonito is nice, hardly any traffic and some good southwestern type scenery. You can take the long way through Taos which is very nice.
We drive it a lot as Santa Fe is our nearest larger town. It is a bit closer than Pueblo and has more stores!

| Now that I made it through Hurricane Jeanne and am back in cool Colorado. If anyone wants to get together sometime/somewhere in Colorado this fall/winter. I know lots of great areas for landscapes and wildlife. We could have some fun. Snow already happening at this moment in Mountains. Sammie's areas is great, Sand Dunes, the Alligator Farm, Alamosa/Monte Vista National Wildlife Refuge and the Sangre de Cristos. Van |

This sounds like a fun thing to do. Let's think of a date and a place to meet! The sandhill cranes are at the refuges right now - they are really photogenic. I got some neat pictures of them fighting but it was such a dreary day that they aren't spectacular pictures. |
