I had a 256Mb card play up on holiday which has meant that there are a load of files which are either not recognised or are 'Unable to view'.

Does anybody of have any views on any of the recovery software which is available, quality/success etc, whether it's free and where I can get hold of it.

All advice and help gratefully appreciated.

Active's Undelete is a pretty good prog. There are demos available for other software, but usually it only lets you SEE the card, not actually get the files. I'm not sure if any of the freeware is any good. I'd go with Active for the $ ones.

When I lost about 300 picture from my memory card I used this software to recover the information from the card (I got everything back including 500 other pictures that I've delete off the card myself. It did the job for me. Here the info link and at the top just click download to get the software Freeware last time I used it.

PC INSPECTOR smart recovery

Quick info on the software below

"the new data recovery program from CONVAR for Flash Cardâ„¢, Smart Mediaâ„¢, SONY Memory Stickâ„¢, IBMâ„¢ Micro Drive, Multimedia Card, Secure Digital Card or any other data carrier for digital cameras..

If you have unintentionally deleted or formatted pictures, videos or sound files on your data carrier or have pulled it out during a write operation, no matter - PC INSPECTORâ„¢ smart recovery can easily, quickly and absolutely reliably reconstruct the lost data.

Using the software is child's play. PC INSPECTORâ„¢ smart recovery runs on all Win 9x, ME, NT 4.0, XP and Windowsâ„¢ 2000 systems. "

Thank you Moose - a life(photo)-saver.

'PC Inspector' was one piece of software that I had heard of, once reminded. It worked a treat, even recovering all of the EXIF information too.

The cards will now go back for replacement!

No Problem! It saved my ass also, think it happened right after Christmas holidays. You can imagine ;-0

That only happened to me once with my card. It was formatted and it has been working for over a year, so maybe that's all you have to do?!

Glad I could help!
