I decided to pull my entry from the challenge, but I would love some honest feedback on how you think it might have done. It's not a typical night shot, so I think it might have failed to meet the challenge for a lot of people. I also had one friend tell me.. "It's only a picture of a dark, bland weed"...
I really liked it whan I first looked at it, but the more I looked at it, the less I like it.
Let me know (honestly) how you would have voted this for "Night Shot ll"
Feel free to post your own shots that didn't make the challenge.

I like the colors and depth. I think you made the right decission by pulling it out, because its simply not a night shot :) |

I think you should tell your fiend to take a hike
This is beautiful it has lovely tonings and depth to this image
You could have always cloned out the offending weed if you didnt like it.
But I do, and it is beautiful I dont know how it would go in the challenge But for my vote on this image in any other challenge I would give an 8 possibly a 9
Nice work

So, I have a 1 from TYT2000 and a 8-9 from you Train. You are both fabulous photographers, thanks for the feedback.
So far I am averaging a 4... I think pulling it was a good idea. |

lol, I didn't say I would have given it a 1 :) In that challenge, maybe a 4, because its not a night shot. But as a stand-alone, probably an 8.

But it is a night shot.... It's the beginning of night, on the edge of darkness. (too big of a stretch huh?) |

borderline Night Shot, but what a great image! Left comment.
.........though I guess technically the sun has gone down. For that challenge think I'd ditherbate on this shot, go back and relook before voting, then look again. 8....decide that it did kinda meet the challenge description. |

Thanks for the comment Sumack! I appreciate it.
I just decided the only thing that makes this picture work for me, is the golden glow where the sun went behind the mountain. The rest of the shot is being carried by that one element.
I think as a landscape goes, I would get a better shot of this in the morning with the morning light on the plants and on the face of the mountains. I will re-shoot this tomorrow morning and see how it looks.
As a night shot, I still think it's not obvious enough even with the title "Sundown". |

You know what, the sun has/is going down, but I really wouldn't consider it a night shot.
I think the skylight pretty much has to be gone to be considered a night shot.
But I'm toying with the idea of doing a studio night shot, but I think it's going to be ripped apart in the voting-if I do it.
Not sure yet. |

I agree movieman, this is why I decided not to enter it.
Even though the challenge description says:
Calling all night owls! Take your best photograph after the sun goes down.
It doesn't say anything about taking a "night shot" But because the title of the challenge is "Night Shot ll" it tends to lead the voters to more than just "after the sun goes down". I think my "Sundown" score would have suffered. |

I would have voted you 7 or 8
I think it DOES meet the challenge, the rules state:
Take your best photograph after the sun goes down.
And the sun IS down, it doesnt say:
Take your best photograph in complete darkness.

Based upon the nit-pick madness my entries have been subject to over the last couple challenges, I'd say yeah, it'll be ripped apart. Personally, I appreciate a fresh take, and give unique shots extra credit, even if it's a joke submission. The most important thing is that you have a good time with it. If you had fun taking the pic, and can enjoy participating and not take things personal, then it's all good.

'Take your best photograph after the sun goes down.'
Yep, this photo fits, and is great.
I'd give it 7/8. |

Gringo,
Great photo! I would have rated it highly, probably 7-8. I think, like you said, the problem is not your photo or the challenge, but the way you are meeting the challenge and how people will interpret the challenge. I also have a good photo for the night challenge, but probably will go with a weaker photo for the exact reason you stated. By the way, your photo "gasoline" is wonderful.

I agree with TYT. It is not a night shot. It is evening shot (why do you start calling evening "the beginning of the night"?).
But it's a beautifull sunset.

I'm hopping on the "It's not a nigh shot" wagon. Just too much natural light. Like others have already said, it looks more like a dawn or evening shot. I would have scored this fairly low.

10 from me, unreservedly. Stunning, unique shot. Tons of emotiveness. I am just not that literal with my interpretations of the challenges, but since so many are, I guess it wasn't a bad decision to pull it -- but I will personally miss it and wish there was room for a more open interpretation so we could have the best photos like these included.

I don't understand you guy's.
The sun is clearly down and that's what this challenge is all about...
So you are going to vote low if there is still a bit of light in the sky?
I can show you pictures made at midnight looking like day....

Did I say I will vote low? What I'm saying, if I have two shots of the same quality or "wow factor" recalled here so often, and one is real "night shot" and the ither one "evening shot" I will give higher mark to the night one. If the evening shot is superb and the night one has some problems, probably I will vote more or less the same.
For what do we need challenge topics? If the topic was "And the sun went down" both types of images will be ok, but it clearly says "NIGHT".
