In our profiles we are allowed to add the "Recent Forum Activity Thread" and the number of them to view on the main page. I love this feature; my laptop sits in the kitchen on this recent forum section all the time just so I can see what"s going on. But running and hitting F5 ever few minutes to refresh is a pain! I have to put down my beer, magazine, kid, cat, wife and so on to do this. Come on, I only have two hands ;-)
But seriously, ever consider putting "Auto Refresh" option on the main page so that when you leave your browse on the main page under "Recent Forum Activity Thread" you can specify the auto refresh rate, say ever 5 min or whatever.
What do you think? |

Currently the site is set to automatically log users out after a period of inactivity, to minimize active sessions. With the recent move to new hardware, I don't know how important this actually is. An auto-refresh feature would interfere with the "timeout".
I'm thinking that there is prolly a way to do this from the user end, but might take a bit of coding. Perhaps someone who actually has a clue will enlighten us ;) |

Have you considered logging into the DPC chat room (which ever one is up at the moment) instead of trying to turn the forums into a chatroom?
I would link but I don't know which is the current chat server. There are a couple of threads that try and keep up with it though, here and here.
It might be more what you are looking for. ;)
