Can anyone tell me something about how good/bad this camera is?

I don't know it and I can get one pretty cheap! Just wondering if there is a reason for that. It is new!

Thanks
Bob

Quick look on the camera review sites found this.

The 1Ds is Canon's top-of-the-line camera, now replaced by the 1Ds mkII, of course. I would check it's definitely new (the 1Ds supports a real shutter release counter hidden in the EXIF), check it's not grey market, and it's in full working order.

Other than that, the main problem with the 1Ds is the images it creates are massive because it's 11MP!!

Contacted him via email, nope suppose to be in UK and can only recieve payment via wire service... Gave it a miss...

Rule #1 If it seems to good to be true it probably is.

Just read about a kid in UK (17years old I think) that was selling fake items on ebay and got huge aoumt of cash by taking the money and never sending any items to the buyer.

So look out only buy from, sellers with good reputation and always use service like paypal or similar.

Look at this!
Copy off Ebay.
This is a WARNING ONLY - there is NO item to sell!!

Don't be caught with ads for the Canon EOS 1D that seem too good to be true!! These items up for auction are a fraud and a scam!

Note that they are usually listed for under $1000 as the starting bid and run for only 1-2 days. For a Canon 1D, that is too good to be true! So don't believe it!!

Often the auction will state to 'approved bidders only' and ask you to email and register to bid. Once they get a list of people who have emailed them, they then pull the auction item off ebay and contact interested buyers direct.

Recently, we bid for a cheap EOS 1D and won the auction. We contacted the seller immediately and offered to collect the item - it was supposedly in Brisbane. No, we were told we couldn't collect. Then we wanted to pay using an ESCROW system and the seller flatly refused - he insisted that we wire transfer the money only (ebay doesn NOT recommend this method EVER). Plus, he was going overseas the next day and would 'take it with him and post from overseas'!! Yeah right!! Emails were getting pretty aggressive by this stage. We asked for the serial number of the camera and he said no way for 'privacy reasons'. So now the alarm bells were ringing pretty loudly!! So we emailed back and said 'no serial number, no sale!!'. That's the LAST email we received from the seller. We believe that there was no camera to sell in the first place.

We emailed other bidders to warn them as we thought the seller would approach them, and he did!! One bidder confirmed that the seller had also refused him on personal collection and COD or ESCROW payment.

So, we reported all this to ebay and they advised that the 'seller' had hijacked another ebayer's account name and was operating the sale under that identity. Ebay then fixed it from their end.

No doubt these people have the skills to trawl through ebay ID's and select people who have not used their account for a while. Meanwhile they are continuing to operate this fraud. Only the other day we put one of these items onto our 'watch list' - it mysteriously 'drops off' the watch list.

Be REALLY CAREFUL! OFFER ONLY TO PAY THROUGH ESCROW OR PAYPAL or some way that protects you!! Better still, don't give them the benefit of getting your info, simply DO NOT BID on these deals that seem too good to be true!!

We hope our experience helps some bidders and buyers
Be warned, this is exactly what I was looking at! I also had it in my watch area and it was due to finish at 9am today but was gone when I got up at 6am.

Don't rely on e-bay ratings or comments from buyers and sellers. There is a way that they can be stolen from reputable people. Be very careful about buying a camera on e-bay, especially if it seems too good to be true. Don't buy from overseas. Never wire money if you don't have the product, its as good as gone. The offers they make are very tempting. I almost fell for it a year ago. Caveat emptor.
