I' ve recently purchased the Canon 300D but unfortunately can't say "brilliant" yet, cause only in nightshots, or low light conditions indoors (long exposures) a red dot is appearing always in the same place, while in some shots there are another two dots close to the permanent one. Any ideas of what is happening? The guarantee exists of course, but I am dissappointed as I didn't expect such a problem.
Thanks in advance

Just wondering if this is on the lcd or when you view on your monitor after downloading. Hot pixels.
Which ever it is you may have to return it. |

Try taking a picture at low ISO of a solid black or white surface or just with the lens cap on. If you see the same dots there when you view the images on your computer, then I think you have a faulty sensor and need to exchange the camera.

Sounds like a 'hot' pixel. Not much you can do about it.

Not necessarily. From what I understand, you can send the camera back to Canon and they can "map out" the bad pixels. There is a table of X,Y coordinates of "hot pixels" in non-volatile memory, and any pixels in the table are "ignored", and instead the values for those locations are interpolated from the pixels surrounding the hot pixels. Most every camera has some hot pixels, but they are mapped out on the manufacturing line. But new ones can develop over time, and there are "weak" hot pixels that only show up during long exposures.

Just took some shots..
At white background they are looking clear, with the lens cap on for exposures of 10 seconds as the ISO value increases the red intensity of those three dots increases too.
So, as the problem with bad pixels could probably remain in case of exchanging the camera with a new one, I just hope this procedure of "map out" to be as succesful as possible.
Thanks again, all of you! |
