by the way, to link a thumbnail pic..
[ thumb ] (pic number, in URL of photo page) [ /thumb ]
no spaces in the brackets, and no spaces between those and the pic number
ie.
[ thumb ] 13343 [ /thumb ]

Good job with the lighting. More than one source obviously.
What kind of setup did you use, what kind of flash units?
Good focus, catchlights in the eyes are nice as well.
Very nice. |

I used a 1600w Balcar for the Main light with a wide grid and a piece of diffusion. And a 1600w alien bee for the hair light. Would have used another balcar but the eyeball wasn't working |

Hi-ho,
I think you (literally you..) might be slightly underexposed, and the deep shadows are a little distracting.. If you didn't have a third light working for fill, a bit of white fabric/card/concrete/polystyrene off to your right would have worked...
What lens / zoom where you using? I'll go out on a limb and say it looks like you've got some 'wide angle' distortion in your shot. Your nose an lips look a little large for your eyes. For portraiture 80mm (equiv) or longer is a good bet. (50mm on your 10d). Either that or the camera was sitting below eye level, so your chin is closer to the camera? If I've got that bit wrong, feel free to hurl abuse at me for suggesting you've got a big nose and lips.. (Ducking stones).
'Broad' lighting like this works much better with more space IMHO, the tight crop makes me concentrate on the darker aspects of the image (shadows, your hair on the right) when I should be looking into your eyes. (Broad as in from the more visible side of your face, not broad as in of a woman. Short lighting is the opposite, from the side turned away from the camera.)
I think tight crops work better with more balanced lighting...
Overall it's a good photo, and you have a pretty model to work with, who I imagine works for free so you can re-shoot any time. :-).
I'm probably being a little picky, but Critique is what this forum is for..
As always, only my 2c worth.
