Hi people,
I have a 10D with only one lense at the moment, a Sigma 70-300MM.
I am going snowboarding in Feb and i want to get a wide angle lense for some landscape shots. I don't have a lot of money to spend but i would like it to be a reasonable macro lense as well. Is this possible on a lowish budget?
Also, what is the deal with filters? If i buy one for the sigma lense, would it fit a canon lense as well? Any recomendations?
If anyone has any pictures taken with any suggested lense that would be great (especially the difference of a polarize filter on snowy moutains with blue skys)
Many thanks in advance (sorry about the long post!)

Filters would fit if it's the same thread size. I think the sigma 70-300 lens if 58mm. I have 3 polarizers - 52mm, 58mm and 62mm. Don't know much about the other half of the post. |

You could always go for the Cokin filter system.
Kind of 1 size fits all....
That's what I use...

I can show you one that I took with the 62mm polarizer on the 28-200mm.

Hi. I borrowed my big bro's 20-35 last summer and got a few nice ones. Very nice lens. Had also a circular pol.filter which works very nice as well (62mm IIRC).
Here is one with snow (glacier actually) and blue sky.
I was gonna buy it myself, but then decided on the better 17-40 L which has much better field of view. I have a pol.filter on backorder for that lens (77mm). Apparently B+W have a back order log of 25.000+ filters, because the thought that with D-SLR nobody would buy any filters any more and shut down some of the production. Boy, were they wrong.
Photo with the 17-40 (w/o filter)
I don't have two pictures from the same place with both lenses. And, sorry, I don't have any with and without the filter.
Cheers
edit: darn typos

Consider the Canon EF 50mm f1.8 Mk II. Not real wide but wider than what you have now, it's budget priced at around $75 and has very good image quality. Another relatively low priced lens with a reputation for very good image quality is the Tamron AF 28-75 f2.8 XR Di, it goes for about $340 and would compliment your 70-300 nicely. |
