IMHO the Master's Challenge was sort of a "free throw," since even last place is an honor, and I was surprised that more people didn't go out on a limb creatively (DougPaz, GraphicFunk and Sonifo- you all got 10's from me). I wanted to do something clever (I think it was expected), but I fell short on the execution.
Here's some more "traditional" shots I took in a 24-hour span in mid-September. None of these were taken with the challenge in mind, but a couple of them might have fared better. The third one formed the background on my Wacky Foods entry...

Thanks, Hopper. If I had bothered to get my tripod out, you probaby would have been voting on that one. Of these, I think the first shot might have scored the best (ooooh...color), but Starscape is my favorite, just for the achievement. |

All are very good, but Starscape wins it hands down IMHO.
Great stuff! |

Strange: This was the entry I put in at the start. I then reasoned that this is an image anybody can see in any other cgallenge. I have no regrets, though. |

Starscape was taken through an 8" Celestron telescope, so it's essentially a 3200mm lens given the Rebel's 1.6 crop factor. It's a 56 second exposure at ISO 400. I didn't have the telescope completely level and polar aligned, so the stars at the edge show some movement. The bright star in the lower center of the frame is the North Star, which forms the tail of the Little Dipper to the left.
Graphicfunk- that's a fabulous image, and likely would have placed in the top 20. How about a consolation prize? One of my clients is the company that made those bridge lights, and I'll bet they would pay you for the shot if you're interested.
