Anyone have any thoughts on this candid portrait of my niece?

The pose, hair, and smile are real good. The biggest things I see are the fence in the background. Even though you're shooting candid, you need to pay attention to the background. There also appears to be a slight bit of motion blur in the head and hair. I'm not sure your shutter speed used, but if you need to bump up, then add a speedlight for fill flash. Overall a nice picture for the photo album.

Thanks for the comments. I really didn't think the fence hurt the composition of the photo much. Sometimes, when taking pictures of kids, you just cant let a smile like that go no matter what is behind them. Thanks for your suggestions about the speed and fill flash. I am still learning, I am not sure if I can set the speed any faster in autofocus. If anyone knows the answer to that one, I would appreciate a point in the right direction. |

I've heard candid used in different ways, both of which I think are valid:
* The subject is not aware of the photographer/camera.
* The subject is not posed or the photo is unrehearsed.
In this case I'm assuming your meaning is the latter. |

Yes it was candid because the subject was not posed and the photo was unrehearsed.
It was 1/122.4, F4.2. ISO 100. The camera was on auto. |
