now that I've discovered neat image and used it on sample images, and fallen in love with it, here's my question.
is neat image acceptable as part of basic editing rules? i'd assume it is allowed for advanced..
thanks!

NeatImage is allowable for basic editing, it falls under this clause:
Any filter or stand-alone utility designed and used to preserve the integrity of the image and/or reduce the effects of noise, scratches, etc, are permitted
Hope that helps...

Please oh please don't go overboard with it however, in the wildlife challenge there were a couple that just reeked of it.

Bear in mind that ir removes detail from your photo.

One last point - like all things in the Basic Editing rules, you must apply NeatImage to the entirity of the image and not just one part.

Also, the free version of neat image compresses the heck out of an image when you save. No control is given when saving. Noise Ware on the other hand allows you to set the jpeg quality before saving.
If you're going the free route I would try Noise Ware. If you're looking for a paid for program then Neat Image is one of the best and one of the versions can be used as a photoshop plugin.
