As a new member I'd apreciate some advice.
If I come accross a photo which I think is particularly impressive, and assuming the photographer isn't selling his/her work. Is it acceptable to ask if he/she would part with a hi-res copy so I could print it and hang it at home?

It's acceptable to ask, but they are of course not obligated to do so.

No harm in asking I am sure most people would be flattered.

| I would have the print made and shipped to your address if asked. After payment of course. |

| I would think not many people would send you the hi-res copy. I think it would be better to ask the person to make the print available through dpcprints. |

I agree about sending a high-res copy, but DPCPrints is only a possibility if they are a member. :(

I would probably be using ofoto for this, shipping is only $1.50 for most things anyway ontop of the normal print pricing. |

Depends where to. To my country is bloody expensive.
But I wouldn't ask anybody for hi-res copy. I understand his/hers point. |

I never part with hi-res copies (it's tantamount to giving away a negative) but would be prepared to send a large format print for payment.
I think it's acceptable to ask but don't be surprised if you get a 'no!'. If they are amateur then they may be flattered. A pro would most certainly be quite firmly against the idea!
