Hi
Edit was to make the child a B&W image with the rest in colour, this was a cold morning in dublin and the child ws upset at being out.

Thanks

Nice shot but not to sure about the desaturation on the subject. It takes my eyes away from the subject.

I agree... the motive kinda falls into the backround with making the child b&w (desaturated)

Rather make the backround desaturated, rather then the kid :)

my opinion :)

I think it would be more effective if the background was desaturated (removed the colors) and the child remained in color. Desaturating the child, your main subject, takes awy the attention from her.

Stuck in the Middle is fantastic. Really makes the model jump out.

Desaturation works well in Cruising in Blue works too.

Yes!, that looks a lot better. Good Job.

Agreed; much better! However, be careful when using the wand in photoshop (or whatever else you used). It appears that some of the subject was left out and got desat when it shouldn't have. i.e. check the child's right hand right at the border...some of the skin is desaturated by accident.

Good job tho :)

This is the method I use, I'm sure that it's similar (and easier?) in photoshop

The edit was rushed as I did this once before and could not remember then became frustrated, will try again and make a decent job of it.

Also going to a local fun fair tonight so hoping for some good shots with neon lights, bumper cars etc...

Colda thank you for sharing this method with us. Everytime someone post a way of doing things I save it to favorites so I can go back a practice it. It really helps when people post methods / tutorials.

Here's my input - take it or leave it...

The eyes seem a little soft (focus) to me. However the front seam of the jacket looks sharper. I wonder if the autofocus keyed off the jacket instead of the face. Had that happen to me - was practicing close up shots with my cat and the AF was triggering on the tip of the nose so with the shallow depth of focus the eyes were slightly out of focus. In my opinion eyes need to be sharp since that's what people look at to establish a connection with the subject.
