...That's what I've resolved to do ...
As has been pointed out many times here, DPC is an addictive activity. Its creators have hit upon an ingenious approach to capturing and holding our attention. From the comfort of our homes we have an opportunity 2-3 times - each and every week - to compete with and measure ourselves against a virtual peer interest group that is spread across our entire planet.
I love seeing how my tastes and skills are received by this group. It's fascinating to watch my score change, up or down - in real time, as it happens. (I wonder how many new cases of carpal tunnel have been initiated by the constant and repetitive pushing of the update button? ...But, who cares; my habit is thereby satisfied!)
Now to my point: Because of my "addiction", I've submitted more mediocre photos than I care to admit. ...Not that I don't put any thought into the execution. It's just that, in order to satisfy my urges, ...in the rush to submit something, I tend to ignore any "objective" standards I know exist for deciding what constitutes a creative, technically "correct" image.
Bottom line: Henceforth, if I'm not perfectly satisfied with my photo, I'm not submitting it. I may break out in a cold sweat if I don't get my weekly fix, but so be it. No longer will I be a slave to mediocrity!!
"AHA!! Onward and upward!", he says. "I am a new man!"
(Edit: OK, so this is a little silly, but isn't there a grain of truth here? Many of us can do better if we just resist the temptation to submit for the sake of submitting.)

I've made the same resolution myself....trying to maintain a standard versus addressing "my addiction".
I resolve to no longer submit crappy last minute entries for the sake of "submitting something".
"Inner Glow" from the Purple challenge and "Grate Cascade" from the Everyday Objects challenge stand in testimony of this vicious, insidious, counterproductive, creative crushing cycle.
We need a support group or something!
Maybe an aspirin.
Crap it's Friday! I gotta go take a picture!

| I've made this resolution several times, but when the deadline looms I still end up submitting shots that I know are under par. *cough-masterschallenge-cough* |

Len - don't be a fool!
I've just tried it - a week without an update button - it's hell I tell you, HELL!!!
I understand now why people enter just about anything into a challenge, and I know that it can be a burden to the voters - but I need my fix!
Please don't make the mistake, in one week I've put on 50lbs and drank 3 crates of whisky, and to be certain it never happens again I already have a pic of my big toe in for the wildlife challenge!
Len, I beg you - for sanity's sake - reconsider your intentions
Darren - gibbering and burbling until he gets his update button back

I see I wasn't the only one. Many things going on here lately and did nothing for the last 2 challenges. That home page just didn't look right without a shot hanging there, and that update demon.

| I find the update button is taking me away from the actual photography. I am addicted when I have submitted, but I also feel the peace when I have not and then enjoy the photography more. So, that can be a reward for your cold turkey approach. |

Your post was huge funny.......especially the "wild life big toe" comment. Thanks for the laugh.

The saddest part of going cold turkey is that when you do finally submit something you think is at least 5+ worthy, and that you have been "good" to yourself for waiting until you had a good shot, and it scores in the 4's!!!

I'm a recovering DP Challenge-a-holic. I no longer have time to create a photo for a challenge, as much as I really would like to sometimes. I still haunt the forums way too much, so maybe I'm not recovering after all.......
