To all “Masters”

After reading John Stezler’s thread on the Master’s Challenge “Dilemma”, I conclude that there is a diversified opinion about how a person might become a winner on DPC. Some have figured out the formula, some have an accepted style, and others like myself just get lucky. Whatever the reason, when you win, it sure is a lot of fun to watch the score and read the abundance of comments during the week of voting.

My pictures sometimes represent the mood that I might be in at the time and for this challenge I have had quite a range, only last week I helped celebrate my first grandchild’s 21st birthday and only yesterday we lost my wife’s older brother to a battle with cancer. I managed to get a nice shot while celebrating the granddaughter’s birthday, it ain’t the best picture I ever took but at the time I liked it so it got entered.

I don’t know how much free time I will have in the next week or so but I would like to challenge all of the “Masters” to comment and enter their vote in the comment box while voting on this challenge. It would be great feedback for those that have taken their “best picture” ever and put it up for review.

How about It?

I am really looking forward to this challenge as well. I submitted a shot that I've wanted to do for a long time. I'm not sure how well it will do but I certainly plan on looking extensively at each and every submission and my plan is to comment on every one. Not that I will be able to give these folks much advice but this challenge is different and I want to treat it as such.

There has been a tremendous amount of buzz about this challenge, both positive and negative and I think it might be just the shot in the arm that DPC needs. If there are continued challenges and this one works out the way I think it will, I can see others going that extra step or extra mile to try to get that ribbon that will allow them to enter in future challenges. Good luck to all!

The beauty of limited submissions, is less photo's to vote on. While I'm not going to promise to comment on every one, that is my plan at the moment.

I don't consider myself a master of photography, but I would say I've seen enough and learned enough to be able intelligently comment/critique. My submission isn't my best work ever, nor is it a groundbreaking new style (it is the best I've done this month) ... but I'm hoping Setzler's post has inspired people to be risky. I'm very excited to see the submissions (knowing full well I'll most likely be lower than 50 percentile).

I think this suggestion is a very good one, and unless we get a ton of submissions before midnight, it shouldn't be to onerous. I'll give it a try.

Thanks for expressing your views, I think this is going to be a very interesting challenge. I can't wait to see the entries.

I can't wait for it to start... I just changed my entry to a shot I got just today. I think it has real potential, but this is going to be a really strong field. I can't wait to vote this challenge!

I took my submission shot on the 6th. I've been second guessing myself all month. I'm happy the waiting period is almost over :)

I'll be doing my best to comment on all... Mine's definitely not my best shot ever, but I spent almost two weeks sick this month and then trying to catch up with my business, so I haven't had much time to shoot. I grabbed what I think is a decent shot the other day and thought tonight - "holy crap, I better get that edited and uploaded, the deadline's already upon us!" So I submitted it, for better or worse. ;)

LOL, I felt the same way, I took my previous submission on the 5th, and knew it would do OK but not spectacular. I've been looking for something better all month, then today got a chance to execute one of the shots I've been thinking about, and got one I'm really excited about.

Good Luck, Masters!
How many are eligible, anyway?
I don't remember seeing any stats.

There are 125 users with at least 2 ribbons. Of those, as of September 3, 100 are paid members who had logged on since August 1.

Best of luck to all entrants. To me, this is the most exciting challenge of all, and I plan on trying to comment on all submissions. Good thing about fewer entries is that voters/commenters have more time to really scrutinize the images and fine tune their critiquing skills as well.
