This effect doesn't come out very well on the first image imo, I think it could work in other lighting conditions, maybe in a studio. The second one I like much better, the cropped one of the eyes, I would like to think that the effect works well for that one, improves the original I'd guess.
It's good to experiment with photos, that's one of the most effective ways to learn, and nice if somone can give opinions on the outcome as the photographer can get confused after having the images infront of his eyes for a long time.

| I cannot critique these but, I like the second one better, because the lightness Works better on that one. I think the first one is too light (bright). Nice job. |
