Thanks.
Wanted to make clear I'm really a lazy person, This is how we bought the plates and glasses, I just opened the wrap and put it on the table.
So the "too many objects" isn't my fault ;-)

You placed it on the table well. he he ;o)
Now play with it. Of course, only if you have the motivation to do so.

It's an interesting composition.
I really like the colors and the shapes and the placement of the glasses. And although I agree that odd numbers usually go better - I like the even numbered glasses. They are placed really good in the composition.
Maybe it is a little bit too busy with the green parts. Try to get rid of some.
Another thing, I am not totaly sure if it will do better or worse though but it would be interesting to see: try to move the plate a little bit more to the center of the table, so that the wood will only have it's horizontal lines and no verticals (I refere to the one at the left side of the picture)
One last suggestion: try to play just a little bit with the contrast and levels in ps. maybe even use just the auto options It revives the colors a bit.

So here's another variation, I manipulated it a lot, didn't like the original result - was way too boring.
Did burning and then played with levels and similar to get this result.
I like it :-)
Although it's not very much Heida's style, I would like to thank her for the inspiration of using the Burning tool :)

I feel like the photo is over-cluttered. It could also be shot closer than that. Try to get in as close as you can to the subject for most shots. As for post editing you seem to have a lot of greens so why not try to pull them out more. Maybe slightly lower the saturation of non green things and boost green. That probably what I would attempt, but I love playing with selective desat as you can see in my profile ;-) |

For the 2nd one, the glasses look a little hazy, is that how they really are? There also seem to be an aweful lot of reflections on them. I really like the blackened boarder as it's much nicer than the wood. I still think it's a bit crowded, but without the food it's better. |

Closer to the subject would be nice. Instead of putting the black in there after the fact, try a black cloth. Not bad at all...keep working on it. That's how you will get better. |

Speaking of reflections, How do I get rid of those ? it's hard to get real smooth and equal lighting.
I don't have a polarizer either.

if you have a really powerful light you can use it bounced off a white surface. I use a 650 watt tv light and a piece of canvas, or the ceiling, usually works pretty well! |

Where would I get a 650W light bulb ?

Unfortunately I found mine at my grandparents house, so I don't know where to get the one I have. A halogen bulb can easily be 500 watts and they're pretty cheap compaired to the neons and strobes that work best for photography. But that's what I would suggest for people that don't wanna spend much.
ps: if you want a 700watt bulb they have them in some warehouses, but i'm not sure where to buy them.

Okay. I'll look for one when I have the chance.
Thanks.

You should post a larger version of your photo, it's too hard to judge "large thumbnails".
