I remember when I first started surfing the net (I say "net" not "web" since there weren't really any websites worth surfing at that point) I remember frequent visits to a newsgroup called alt.ascii-art or something like that.

I was constantly amazed by the talents of the artists who would select just the right character to provide just the right "tone" for each element of their image.

Some artists even had their own style and everything.

And I certainly remember there being a preponderance of female nudes - but then the ratio of male to female users of the net was still very heavily skewed towards the males back then.

Tomorrow.
But I guess I will never be as old as you, my friend, so can I use that as a reason to feel better?
;o)

Reminds me of a story an old developer I used to work with told me, about how at university they used to print out life-sized nude pics in ASCII using continuous-feed line printers. :-) Because line printers can over-print multiple characters they used to work out complicated combinations to get different levels of shading.

Another story I heard about line printers (going back way before my time now) is that you weren't allowed to print rows of the same characters (for instance -----------) because all the hammers hit the drum at the same time causing the printer to jump about a foot backwards. :-D

It's an exciting life I lead... With my toy camera..

Big difference in age, Kavey, worry not. :-D

If the camera was an import from Asia it would have a Canon Digital KISS logo instead of a Canon 300D logo.

Checked out the Black 300D at Jessops today.

Complete with lens kit, battery grip and Sandisk 256mb CF card for £849.

It looks and feels really good. Not at all plasticky!

No waiting time either, easy to get for Jessops, and if buying additional gear, i.e, lenses, flash, etc...go for a discount deal. 10% is well worth the trouble. For what I looked at, £2k, that's £200 off, price of a lens!
