I am certain that many of you are aware of the image force known as Anastasia Kapluggin. Her average score humbles me completely..6.2.

Look, the tribute should be paid while members are able to read them and in this accolade I want to sing her praises. First, her port is a knockout in the creative use of light. Her technique is beyond reproach
and she puts a lot into her images. You see most photographers miss the point when they do full size figures. These require a lot of work and the reason is very simple: the camera is a one eyed instrument and as such, as a photographer, you are required to change a 3 dimension view into a 2 dimension one and here lies the problems. When you look at something with both eyes the eyes often envelop some subjects. In other words, it is not a 2 dimenional frontal view. This 2 dimension view must be treated special because it lacks the 3rd dimension which is often required to make sense of the subject. Example: we have all made shots where the hands or limbs look strange or odd. Sometimes, the shadows just do not deliniate the subject and often the angle we chose does not tell the story we are after. Yet, a lot of this made sense to the original 3 dimension view.

Well, what this means is that special attention ( and enough can not be paid, as something always gets by), is required to make sure that the form remains true and that all extremities are captured in their most advantageous positions. Sometimes we must be careful with fingers that sink into hair with some that don't...the 2 dimension wants no ambiguity here. With hands and limbs that turn away from the lens. You get the idea..great attention is needed.

I invite you to visit the port of this very gifted member and you will be amazed at the quality of her technique, her attention to detail and the great use of lighting. Many lessons are hid in this port.

Her image, "Lioness Rampant" is simply a deftly display of talent. Observe how well she lights the zones from 1 to 9 and then look at the expert use of zone 10 in the highlights. I was floored was I first saw this image. Look at the placement of the model. Examine the light..Look at the attention to detail and you will agree that Anastasia is a heavy-hitter with talent to spare. Nothing in her images is overworked and the images are as pure as snow for those that love classical photography.

So here is to you Anastasia..I tip my hat and send you kudos flying into the DPC cyber space. Staying on course will bring you many rewards, it is just a matter of time.

Great tribute, Daniel. Anastasia is certainly one of the top photographers on this site, but hasn't received the accolades she deserves. What strange brand of magic can yield a 6.2 average across 29 challenges with nary a ribbon to show for it? Methinks there's another Kapluggin with a hidden Anastasia voodoo doll. ;-)

You are right Scalvert. But you see, one day she will hit a few in a row. Averages say a lot but they need time. I would gladly trade my ribbons for that average. The high average will in the long run bring more rewards.

Eight finishes in the top 10 without a ribbon. I wonder if that's a record? I have no doubt that she'll eventually have enough ribbon material to knit a sweater. ;-)

An excellent portfolio. Very talanted photographer. It is amazing that she hasn't ribboned with all the great photos she has here. No doubt it's just a matter of time.

Nasti is asleep at the moment but I think she will be chuffed when she sees this thread in the morning, thank you Graphicfunk!... Nasti entered a lot of challenges in the past but not anymore cos she likes photographing images that don't really score too highly in DPC. I am not sure myself why nude photography doesn't do so well here but it is what she like doing best and likes to stay with that. I myself would like nude photography to take a better stand here and I really don't know why it gets rated down so much. Anyway Nasti does some awesome nudes which I find very impressive, here is a selection of some of her work:

Thank you Gary: Please, persuade Nasti to keep submitting to DPC because her presence is greatly desired. Yes, DPC does suffer a bit when it gets to nudes and I believe the answer to be that not all can get models...yet, I never really care about subjects that are beyond my means. For example, I do not do insects nor astronomy, yet I show my full appreciation. In truth I love all well done photography..the subject is secondary. A master can make a cup look ravishing.

I note in the works of Nasti, that there is certain competence which is absent in many so called accomplished artist. To me her images sing and they sing loud and clear and I look forwatd to seeing more.

hey there..if you want to shoot models you can consider looking into onemodelplace.com...the girls will run to you. Well, they must first like your work, but that should not be a problem for you.
