Went to a W. rally today to get some photos of the president. He's been around here a few times lately, but this was the first one I was able to get tickets to.

Well....ended up being over 50,000 people there! I bailed out about an hour before Mr. Bush made his appearance. I was there from 11:00 until 3:00 and just couldn't hack it any more.

You couldn't take in a blanket, chair or anything to sit on. Because we were so close, there was NO room really, to even sit on the ground. I went to a food stand and got some lunch and couldn't come close to making it back up with my family.

I called my hubby's cell and they opted to leave the fence line and meet me in the shady area I found. People kept pouring in and finally, I said I just had to leave. It was crazy, neck to neck people.

So...four long hours in the sun and on my feet for nuthin. :( I couldn't even manage to get any good crowd shots while waiting.

bleh. We left at about 3:30 and didn't get home until almost 5:30 (we were about 20 minutes from my house) due to traffic problems and street closings. I can only imagine how hard it was after he left and everyone else was leaving at the same time! They may still be there...

It̢۪s a shame that you were not able to get photos. I̢۪ve only had the opportunity to meet one president and that was back in 1986 [President R. Regan]. Of course back then I used a film camera but got some good pictures. Some as close as 100 ft. away and I believe I was using a Minolta 700 with a 200mm zoom lens. A long time ago!

Hi Judy. I was almost stuck in traffic on 35 around Xenia because of the motorcade. I guess they closed it because of the overpass over 42 (the route he was traveling). I jumped off and tried to go the back way and was stopped in traffic again as he went by me on 42. I waved from about 10 cars back. :D
The only time I saw a president up close (sort of) was in Downtown Dayton. So long ago I barely remember. Johnson? I was up front and got pushed by the crowd right into his limo. He got a view of my face smashed into the side window. Not a pretty sight. I thought the secret service men were going to hurt me. Not a good experience, I'm afraid.
Sorry you missed him. But 50,000 people is about 49,500 too many in my book, too!

Here's an idea of why I left. You can see how close together all the people are. They were like this the entire time, not just when Bush was there. This is only a small portion of the crowd. This is a scan of a photo in today's paper. They estimated the crowd at 50,000 - 52,000, the largest ever at a GOP rally. For some perspective....this is more than the Cincinnati Reds baseball stadium (Great American Ballpark) will hold.

About 1/2 way up the photo, on the right, you can see a police woman in a blue shirt with her arms out to her side leaning back against a fence. In front of that fence were the special ticket holders. We were just behind that fence, right up against it and just out of the right edge of this photo - pretty much right where Bush is looking. Had we stayed, that's were we would have been.

Maybe it wouldn't have been so bad, except we were totally fenced in. There was only one exit. The enitre crowd area was closed off by two fences and a circle of end-to-end semis.

I figure at least we gave it a good try. If I hadn't gone, I'd always wonder if I could have gotten that one great photo!

Wow! Well at least that's a good sign that he has a lot of support. That makes me treasure even more a night while he was still the Texas governor. He came to this very small dinner that we went to because my boss was getting honored for something. He was so down to earth, mingled with everyone, acted just like he was one of us. No huge fanfare, bodyguards. Just a great guy you hoped would someday go really far in making a difference in our country's future!

Well..I really don't plan on this being a political discussion (at least on this forum) and I won't go into if I'm a supporter or not. I will say that the main reasons I made the attempt is to allow my 10 yr. old the chance to see a "sitting" president in person, and of course it's a cool photo opportunity.

Given the crowds you faced, I would have thought that you could have used any photo for the wildlife challenge.
