To the powers that be:

I was wondering if it would be possible to add the average vote of those qualified as masters to the averages displayed for each entry:

Place: 1 out of 170
Avg (all users): 7.396
Avg (commenters): 8.679
Avg (camera): 7.393
Avg (no camera): 8.000
Avg (masters): ?.???

I think it would be interesting to see and compare. Anyone else agree?
Thanks for considering.

Edit: These are, of course, not my scores :)

I'm not sure about this, people can just check out the average score of each member in their profiles. Some people have submitted carelessly, without trying to win, some people have even tried to have the worst score to "win the brown ribbon"...
hmmm... on the other hand, that could be a good idea, if the average score will be more visible, then people would stop trying to have that stupid brown ribbon.
...I'm just typing as I'm thinking here... It would also be a good idea to see the average score of the best 10-20 submissions from each user, then the carelessly or worst entries wouldn't be count in. And like that there would be another way to set up the 'masters group' here on dpc, the top 100 members that have the best average scores out of 10, 15 or 20 of their best submissions would become a master, that would be a better way to pick out the masters or "top100" (I don't like using the word masters for this)!

whooopz, sorry, what was your question again? :-P just lost myself there...

This first Masters Challenge is an experiment, and as such we are not even sure if they will continue beyond this first one. When we discuss whether and in what form they will continue, we will also discuss potential features we can implement related to the challenges. This will likely be something we would consider at that time.

I think maybe you misunderstood, or I didnt quite follow your response. I would like to see what the average score given for my entry would be if limited to only those votes given by those who qualify for the masters challenge.

Thanks Terry.

I think the idea is interesting.

Personally, I am not sure I am in favor of keeping a "masters" category and making a "class hierarchy" on the site, but I do like the concept of having a separate score for a qualified set of voters. Separating out the average score for ribbon winners isn't any different in concept than the "users without cameras" score.

I think it might be useful as a kind of "juried vote" in addition to the overall vote.

Oops! Yes, I'm sorry I did misunderstood you, I'm just too tired I'll guess. ;-O

No, I'm not sure about this either. It's like saying that the ribbon winners have better opinions on everybody else's photos and their votings are more important and there is more truth in their votings than others. I have seen great photographers giving a lot of unbelievable high ratings on other sites. Ofcourse it's great when a true master of photography tells you that he really likes your work, but his opinion shouldn't be any better than the mass. It is always interesting to see what some group of people are voting, showing what women are voting against the men is even more interesting to see. But imo votings of users with or without cameras shouldn't even be separated.
