I just got back from a Family Reunion and I picked out 4 images that I'd love to have a critique of. I've only applied a bit of NI to them.
While on the way, I snapped this shot of my wife. Just held out the camera and snapped it. I'm really pleased at how well this came out. :)
Pic 1 -
Here, we have my grand-daughter (8 yrs old) sitting next to her great-grand-aunt (89 yrs young) and still as sharp as a tack. What my wife and I love so much about it is the way they're both sitting virtually identical to each other.

This is a cousin... would you believe she's nearing 60 yrs old?
Pic 3 -
This gentleman is also sharp as a tack. He's the older brother of lovely lady in picture 2. He's still going strong at the age of 93.
Pic 4 -
I'd like to know what you think about them, what you like/dislike about it/them. Should I sharpen them with USM? - any suggestions on settings?
Thanks

First - I really liked all the pictures! I think they are really neat and they all gave me a fun feeling.
As for some comments - this is my own personal feeling:
In both the first and second pictures, I am missing the bottom part. Well, not all of it probably, but just a little bit more.
I have found myself trying to refresh my screen a couple of times, hoping that it was a bug in the picture's display and not it's bottom border...
Also, in picture #2, I wish the lady that stands in the back wasn't there :-/
The composition of the old and young together is excellent and the expression on both their faces is beautiful! They are completing one another. I think it is brilliant.
Picture # 3 is great but I don't think it do justice to the woman photographed. Her shoulders are low and she looks as if she is down or very tired or maybe she didn't really want to be there in the first place. I don't think she really wanted to look like that. Especially not on the web ;-)
Picture # 4 is amazing! It is my favorite! The only thing that bothers me a bit is the glow on the glasses. Try burning it a little on photoshop or some other editing tool. As it is now, it is just a little bit too distracting.

Thank You so much for the reply Jinjit! I really appreciate you taking the time that you did to critique them! :)
I'm glad they gave you a fun feeling because it really was a very fun day. It was our first time attending the reunion and meeting this group of people irl. This was a reunion some 40 years in the making... :)

I'll have to work on making sure that I get more in the bottom of the frame to complete it in the future. Nothing was cropped from the bottom of either the first or second photos. I did, however, crop a bit on the second to take out part of a person who didn't fit in what I was trying to capture. I wish that lady in the background wasn't there too, but I'll see if I can clone her out.
The third image, I don't think I agree with your analysis of her. She seemed very happy to be there and I think I captured her reacting with sincerity to what someone else was telling her and perhaps it's coming across as being tired or down?
Pic #4 I tried burning, but my lighter kept making these long black marks all over my monitor. *lol* seriously though, I'll give that a shot and see how it turns out. I agree that the reflection is a bit distracting and should be toned down.
Again, I thank you very, very much for your comments. |
