Hi everyone,

I went down to Kamakura, the ancient capital of Japan, yesterday and took a bunch of pictures of the temples and the giant Buddha statue there. Here are a few of my favorite shots. Hope you like them! As always, I love receiving comments almost as much as I love giving them. :-)

This is the giant Buddha statue:

These statues aren't as big, but there are WAY more of them:

And a few other shots around the temples:

Great work! I like the first Buddha shot with the trees framing his head. I also like the perspective of the bamboo shot. The "incense" girl looks more like the "incensed" girl. She doesn't look happy that your taking her picture. LOL. But I like that shot too! Cheers....Martin

Thanks, Martin! Yeah, I don't know what that face was about since she just sort of wandered into the shot while I was trying to photograph the incense. :-)

Really nice shots and brings back fond memories. We lived in Okinawa Japan for 8 years, so photos from Japan make me wish we were still there.

Some great shots, Philip. I like the bamboo, too. The little statues are Jizo, who protect children. I heard they're placed there for the repose of children who have died and aborted foetuses.

Here are some photos I took a while ago of another sitting Buddha statue (that's certainly not so well-known as the Kamakura Daibutsu, and not as large).

Thanks everyone for your comments in this thread and on the photos as well. I really appreciate it!

I had heard about those Jizo, David, but didn't know these were the same thing. Thanks for the info and for sharing your Buddha pics as well.
