A Tale of Two Entries
Sunday night: our hero makes his entry into Stopped Motion. Decent scores start to roll in, and the score seems to settle in the low to mid six range. Life is good.
Monday: while continually hitting the update button, our hero sees a fair share of Sixes and sevens roll in. The odd five draws generates of âAhhh! Damned by faint praise!â
Tuesday night: Our hero works diligently to finish Touch. He convinces himself that he is on a roll, and has the best idea DPC has ever seen. Finally gets the exact exposure he wants, runs upstairs does a minimal amount of post processing (basic editing) and posts with a half hour to spare. âBlue for sure!â
Our hero scratches the dogâs ears and passes him a cookie. The dog raises an eyebrow and takes the cookie.
Midnight: The votes take some time to start rolling. First vote is a five. Second vote is a four. âWhat are they thinking?â Stopped action gets a six. âNot bad, but it is dropping my score.â
After 13 votes, 4.84 average on Touch. âStupid Trolls! Why canât we do something about them? â The dog raises his head warily, but eventually relaxes.
Wednesday morning: Stopped Action holds steady at 6+, but Touch is down to 4.48. âI hate Tuesday nights.â
Later Wednesday: Six rolls in on Stopped Action. âWell, that didnât hurt too bad.â Scroll down. Touch hovers at 4.5. âWow, I havenât done this badly in awhile. Hope the brown isnât a reality!â
Gravity continues to work, but Touch eventually bottoms out at 4.4.
Later: a four rolls in on Stopped action âDamn! That is the end of the front page for me!â
A four rolls in on Touch âWell, at least it wasnât a 3.â
A five rolls in on Touch âWow, maybe the tide is turning.â
A five rolls in on Stopped action âOh my, I hope I make the second page."
Wednesday Evening: A seven rolls in on Stopped action, and that score goes back to the bubble for the front page. A seven rolls on Touch âExcellent! Maybe I can break the 20th percentile!â
A five rolls in on Stopped Motion, âDamn, what are they thinking?â The dog moves to the other side of the room.
A five for Touch âExcellent! A voter with real taste!â
Thursday is the similar to Wednesday, except that the family dog hides to avoid the perpetually grumbling master, and the randomly flying objects. The wife and kids go to Florida âfor the weekend.â Our hero realizes that they donât own either a summer or winter home in Floridaâ¦.hmmm. âNevermind, where is the update button?â
Friday: Just enough high scores on Touch roll in the morning to tease our hero into thinking that he has a chance of breaking 5. Stopped Motion holds steady at 6+.
Late in the day, Stopped Motion stays steady right on the bubble for the first page. Our hero gets his only Touch comment, and it is a great one describing what could be better, and offering encouragement for what was done well. âIâll definitely break 5!â
After work on Friday, Stopped Motion Holds steady, but the fours start again on Touch. Five come in at once. âDamn Trolls!â
The dog scampers to the corner. âIt must be time to start thinking about Complexity.â Our hero realizes that he didn't really like his touch entry anyway, dials 1-800-Flowers for Florida and looks around to pat the dog.
The dog happens to be doing his business on a camera.
Note: This story is fiction. The characters bear no resemblance to real people or animals (but, on a side note, my therapistâs bill might be slightly higher than normal this week!)
P.S. I donât own a dog either. Everyone have a great weekend. Its time to watch the Red Sox send the Yankees home crying. Sorry for the long post, but the first couple innings were slow.
