I'm fairly new to this site.. just a comment..

I see alot of great shots when I'm voting, but they have hardly anything to do with the subject and they just put the challenge keyword in to link it. How do you guys vote when you see a great shot, with minimal tie-in with the challenge?

Just use a "touch" of judgement... :)

Think there is no good answere. I hate it when people are trying to squeeze in the images by the title but on the other hand sometimes you are just missing the point. Just take a good look and follow your concience.

Yeah, Ive seen a few also, I leave a comment asking how it relates, just to let them know that I don't see it.

I have been doing the same thing and then scoring lower because I don't see the connection to the challenge, which is supposed to be the main point of having challenges. This is an age old arguement, the Team Sports debate going on right now is a classic example.

But I see no connection, whatsoever, then I score very low, no matter how good the picture is.

If they answer you in a PM so that you understand how it relates, do you go back and change your vote?

I will go back and re=evaluate the shot if they can explain how the shot meets the challenge, without the title. There was one shot I flat out asked about the title, the shot, the title bothered me on a different level, the person PM'd me, explained it and I did go back, left additional comments and raised the score.

But it has to be a really good explaination

BUT, if the title is the only thing that is linking the shot to the challenge, then no, I don't change my score.

Expecting a lot of PM's over the next couple of days

Having received a note on my picture who's title doesn't force a connection -- I'll say it's low ;) I do appreciate the comments so thanks Neuferland!

edited to add the thanks and correct typos

I do the same. I'm pretty open to different interpretations so I always try to give some leeway but... if I can't see a connection at all, I vote accordingly.

IMO it's part of the photographer's brief not only to use the challenge theme as a starting point for his/her own creativity but also to communicate that theme to the viewer in his/her end result.

But not everybody think the same,
so what you think doesn't meet the challenge could be a very good picture with a very good story, but you just don't get it.

I've seen it many time's got pm's from people about comments I left and after explanation it was all clear to me...

Which is why I don't mind getting PM's during the challenge. If I leave a comment or question about the shot and it's connection to the challenge, I fully expect a PM from the photographer so they can explain it and make me look again. I don't mind looking and I don't mind leaving comments but if I don't hear anything then I will assume they either can't make the connection or don't care to make the connection, which is also fine.
