That everytime I notice a political rant, I'm gonna post a random photo in it. If anyone else would like to join me in my defiance, please feel free!

I'm ALL about this plan! :) But if we do that...we're bumping the thread!

If it's not us with our defiance, it's someone else. Maybe our photos will make the rant veer off into a happy direction?

What made you change your mind about the rants? You were partaking in them as well up until yesterday. |

I came to realize that..
1) it's a photography site
2) our politics will never agree

I have come to the same conclusion. The sides are clearly drawn. Each side drinks their kool-aid and instead of debating ideas, each side simply lashes at the other. Too much valuable time is wasted..energy that can be best put to use on the purpose of this site. |

A somewhat valid conclusion, but...
How would go over with anyone if, whenever a thread was started about a random photograph, someone determined that they would post a political comment? Granted, there would be more grounds for complaint given the focus of this site, but you're still highjacking a thread in either instance. Perhaps a better solution is simply to ignore the political threads. Even when their titles are deceiving, you usually know within a sentence or two where it's going. Unless and until the site leadership decides otherwise, political discussions are allowed here, so why not live peacably with that reality?
Just a thought (or three). |

Yup, I agree. You can turn rant off if its not your thing and simply hijacking a thread because you don't like it is pretty juvenile imho.

well since it's a photography site, and not a political one, I think my hijacking a political thread with a photograph is fair game. I'm sure there are plenty of forums on-line dedicated to blasting opinions as to whether george bush or john kerry should be the pesident of the USA. If I was to go to those forums and post my photo's, then I would be out of line. It seems that posting a photo on a website that is dedicated to photography seems fair to me. Even if I am "hijacking" somebodys political argument.

Hmm, it depends, if you went to a political site that had a photo section then you would not be out of line. If however, people posted unrelated political comments after all your pictures I think it would be out of line. I like dpc as it has a diverse range and is not just about pictures, do you think it would be a better place if everything had to revolve around a picture?

Oh,
for some reason I thought DP stood for Digital Photography
DP really stands for Diverse Politics
I must have joined the wrong site...

People are more than just their cameras. And as we know: everyone has an opinion.
If it's only going to be about photography than only have photography forum headers right? That seems like an easy enough solution.

Right first time, but it does not mean that the only thing that can be posted has to be directly related to photography, its been said before, if you are not into certain subjects you can ignore them. I'm not into politics here and if I see it in the thread title or early on in the post I just don't go there anymore - simple.

I guess so, within the guidlines of the dpc rules.

Great!
In that case, I'll post random photos in every political rant that pop's up!!
Thanks for the advice Ecce Signum :)
Peace,

Feel free, but I doubt it will do your dpc cred much good. Let people have their rant, if your not intersted in the subject its best left alone. Your photography skills are excellent and I'm sure you'd rather be admired here for your fotog skills rather than laughed at for childish post hijacking?

This is a photographic site and while all threads need not be about photography they certainly should not be about polarizing subject such as Religion and politics.
These threads always invite the kooks, the fanatics and the unbalanced. Not only that, but then there are the insults and ultimately the hard feelings.
I know it gives the looney element of both party's the opportunity to show just how uninformed and rude they are as persons and that they can not debate ideas but rather quote from their sources.
It is not for any of us to censor anything, but the site has limited resources and these rabid fanatics are simply hijacking space that can find a better use. While I will not censor anyone, I certainly wish that these members would find it in their hearts to keep their prejudices to themselves or to go to another site that excells in political ignorance. lol |

Actually....
I've posted 5 photos in 5 different rants, and have gotton comments on all of them that i probably wouldn't have gotten otherwise.
So....
I'm basically marketing myself to a "new un-tapped market" and getting comments and critiques!
:-P
Look!!! this one has been view 400+ times!!!

Rabid fanatics? do you mean Bush supporters?
I like the site as it is and decide myself what to view or reply to, if it was decided to remove all threads that do not directly relate to photography then sobeit, it would still be a great site even if it lacked the 'social' element. But I doubt that would work.
Eric, well done on the comments/critques, so I guess if it works for you then do it.
