I'm looking at getting a new printer in the very near future (my canon bjc6000 is nearly dead).
My top pics to replace it are the Epson R800 or the Canon ip8500 not yet released in Australia.
Can users of these printers please give me some feedback on how they have found them.
As it will be our only printer printing general text, documents, web pages and our photos.
I have heard that the Epson R800 nozzles clog if not used for more than a day, is that true? I hope not it is probably my leading contender at this time.

The Canon 8500 will serve you better as an all-purpose printer. It's MUCH faster and handles more paper sizes. You aren't likely to see much difference in the photo quality unless you compare the prints 30 years from now. |

Thanks for your input. Any one else have any information that could help me?

I'd go the R800, in fact I did go the R800.
I based that on reviews on the R800 when it came out. I still think Epson have a definite edge on photo printing over the other brands.
Yup, the Canon 8500 may indeed be a better all-purpose printer, as could some of the HP's, but I needed a printer for my photos and anything else was a bonus. It still does great text etc, though slower than some printers ... that doesn't matter to me, top quality prints did.
The technology in the R800 is quite awesome, especially this "gloss optimiser" thing.
SO, decide what you want it for I guess. General purpose then the Canon or an HP will win. If photos are what matter and the rest is just a bonus then I'd go the R800 without hesitation.

I think I'll go the R800 and keep my older canon bjc6000 as a utility printer for text and other not so inportant printing jobs.
It still prints fine for that sort of thing I have had trouble with it for photo printing with clogged nozels etc.
Now to get a good price?

I got mine from //www.scannerplace.com.au as it was the best price at the time. I can;t fault them for service.
Harris Technology had them at the same price, but they didn;t have any in stock when I needed mine.

I don;t recall other than it was very fast indeed. They had told me the Tuesday with a small possibility of the Monday and it arrived Monday lunchtime. I am not sure when I ordered it, but I ordered it in the morning and they had it out of the store to the courier on the same day.
