How or why is it that we get comments to the effect "photo does not meet the theme" when in our interpretation, executation and submittal of the photo it quite concisely meets the theme?
I realize that there may be a language barrier and I'm thankful that the site is in English or I would likely deserve the comments and low votes. For example: In the Stopped Motion II challenge I decided to submit a picture where all of the stationary objects and one of the moving objects have motion blur and the 'Subject' (which is quite obviously moving very fast) is captured without a motion blur. What better way to illustrate the theme?, yet there have been comments to the effect that there is motion blur in the picture? I wish I could say that this is the only time when this has happened yet it isn't. It's one thing to submit photos without the WOW (which I haven't achieved in a single entry yet ~ my fault) yet still another to submit an entry that meets the theme and still never makes it out of the 4's. Please offer any insight you can as I need to get over this hump. I've gained a lot from being involved in this site and if I stick with it, I will learn a lot more... yet the wind is not in the sail any longer.

I have a theory - I'm not completely convinced of it as yet, but it certainly seems true some of the time, if not always.

When presented with a challenge with 171 entries, people will sometimes look first to remove a shot from contention when they see it - especially the speed voters who just want to get through all the entries. If therefore, it says 'no motion blur' in the details, they will happily take that to mean in the entire image, as it allows a shot to be discounted, thus making their choice more select.

It cannot be stressed often enough - if you want to score well, you must nail all aspects of the challenge to even the most grumpily officious voter.

I know the shot to which you refer - I think you've provided more information than necessary in your post, though quite obviously that knowledge isn't going to affect your score - and I think you met the challenge. But when i saw it I thought - uh oh, this one's going to get voted down for that blurring.

As to the wow factor - try this approach: could you really imagine your shot being sold on a greetings card? Of any kind? Really? If you can genuinely answer yes to that, you can, provided you meet the challenge, almost be guaranteed a 6.
