I'm considering entering some online photo contests. These are the photos (some of them) that I'm considering:
<- the version without any cloning done to it (depending on which contests)
<- with some more editing done
I'd love to have your opinion on which I should enter and if you see any others in portfolio on here or my deviant Art gallery (which has more than just what I've put up here), please tell me which ones!
I've never done this before so I'm eager to try it out and I need your help!

I really like the last one. Not sure about the others, but I am sure there will be a lot of people to say something about them. The last one I think it's a brilliant composition. Love it! |

Gathering Storm is my favorite. The rest aren't as much my tastes, so I will let others guide you better there! Good luck!!!! Let us know how you do.

I think your first shot is the strongest. It's got a nice clean background that is part of the image.
I've looked through your Animals gallery. I think you have some nice looking pets and some interesting shots, but a well composed background would make the shots look cleaner and professional. Ed: If you could take shots like that, but with a cleaner background, I think they may do quite well.
I also like the last image, but I think it's possibly lacking impact to stand out well in a photo competition.

the first one is by far my favourite.
I also like the third one because of its narrative element and candidness, and the like the colors in the fifth one.

Wow. Thanks everyone. I've actually come back to that photo ("True Blackness") as my favorite recently and I'm glad other people like it as well.
Now, I hope to enter the Texas Mushroom Festival photo contest, but that requires that I get a print to them by the 24th...um...I'm pretty sure DPCPrints won't get it done that fast, so should I go to Ritz? Especially since I'm in CA and I'm going to have to ship it. (Or should I just sit this year out and do it next year?)
Also, I can't tell, but does it need to be the "pure" photo with Basic Editing done, no cloning? I did some minor cloning to that one to make it cleaner, but the original with the same Brightness & Contrast adjustments won't be bad.
I will probably enter "True Blackness" and "Gathering Storm" since those are the two of my photos that have gotten the best reception here (over multiple threads). Not to mention that "Gathering Storm" was taken in Texas anyway so I feel like I should enter it. ^_^ Would it be considered Senic Texas?
I'm still planning on entering some other contests though (there's so many out there) so keep it coming, hehe. ^_^

Before you make that decision, please please consider this: You don't chop off libs from cropping.
edit: libs = limbs

I didn't. That's the way it was taken. Is it a big problem?

Crop meaning composition. I didn't imply that you cropped it after. But I don't really find it pleasing and a lot of people won't either. Others might have a different view, but that's just what I learned in college. You don't chop off limbs like that. |

Ann, I don't want to discourage your decision... let me say first that the last one is AWESOME... I love it and hope you'll reconsider that one. The first one is fab, too. But the Bank of America building one... just from living in Dallas and seeing shots of that building a million times over, I'm not sure about that one. Not to say it's not good, it is... it's just not unique (just MHO that the storm isn't quite stormy enough to give this photo the "WOW" factor).
Again, all just my opinion. But if it were me, I'd enter the last and first ones. :) GOOD LUCK!!
Edit: Oh, and yes, I think it would qualify as Scenic Texas. :)

Lol, yeah, the last one's up there on my list too, but the reason I wasn't gonna enter it in the TX contest is because it's of CA, which I find a bit strange. And thanks for the opinion about the building, I don't live there so to me it looks really cool, but you're probably right.
Anyway, with just a bit more thought I probably won't enter that contest because I don't really have the time to prepare for it.
I like to plan ahead for things and last minute stuff throws me off. ^^;; If I were still at home instead of living on campus I probably would do it but I don't have a car to get to places to do the necessary stuff so it'll have to wait.
EDIT: Lol, you typed your edit while I typed my reply. ^_^

Ohhh, but you should enter! I don't want to discourage you!! Seriously, the windmill one, that could have been taken from my grandmother's backyard (she lives in Muenster, Texas). We have scenes that look just like that!!! I understand the planning ahead thing, though, and the car... well that can't be helped. But if you fine a way, I think you should consider entering. :)

As I mentioned before, I think the windmill is my favourite. It's not that I don't like the others. But parts of the the images do distract me but I think the last one of the windmill is a fine photograph. Whatever you decide, best of luck. |

...and the #1 is...the #1, at least for me. I like the second and the last one too. |
