I've only been in four challenges. Did poorly in the first, better in the second, even better in the third, then...last place in the fourth. My still motion is getting beaten-up on too. I think I'd do better with a topic like this one. Let's have a free study challenge where the photo has to be taken by a man who lives in Tennessee, drives a Mazda pick-up, uses a HP 945, and works in a zinc plant. I might be able to do well with that challenge. :) |

Hang on in there Ray :)
I know that you probably to photography to get away from work, but I used to be a steel buyer and had a bit to do with galvanising plants, there must be some great opportunities where you work for some industrial photography, any chance of adding a few to your portfolio?
Cheers
Darren

Thanks Darren! This post was more of a joke than a complaint. I was a bit let down by the last place finish. My photo:
I took alot of time to set it up and I almost died from blowing cigar smoke in front of the camera (I'm not a smoker). I know the smoke isn't prominent, but many shots in this challenge that scored high had the same problem, IMO. I realise this isn't a keeper of a shot, but I didn't think I deserved last place. But I'm on this site to have fun, and I am having fun! I think I'm doing well for someone who's been taking pictures for 25 years and just now trying to do it creatively. I'd like to take some shots at work, but they have a strict "No Picture" rule. I'm thinking of taking some from the parking lot with my tripod at night. It's a neet looking place at night. Thanks again! |

O' yea, and it doesn't help that I'm colored-blind! :) |

though i didn't think the Charlie picture was the best i'd ever seen, I did think it deserved and accordingly gave a six for it. i thought it was exceedingly humourous, and evident of forethought and effort. i am genuinely surprised you chalked up nine 1's... keep at it though!

I miss my Mazda Pick-up. It was my first "new" vehicle that I ever purchased.
I'm up and down in the challenges, too. I think your subject choice is why you didn't do well in the smoke challenge. I've tried a couple shots with cartoon figurines and they didn't score very well. Generally, the voters don't like toys...
Just keep taking photos. :D |

I think the best thing about this site is all the people! You are an encouragement! About a week ago I thought I was doing so bad and I couldn't figure out what to do. Then Sammie added this photo to her favorites:
Talk about giving my spirits a boost!! (Thanks Sammie!!) The first to be added to someone's favorite is really special! I have told all my friends with digital cameras about this site and how much encouragement and help you people give. I believe a few have joined. So thank you all - this is a great group of people! Ray :) |

I know the feeling. I felt really good when someone added one of my images as a favourite. And I kept looking if there were others doing the same :) |

That actually would be cool I think. Industrial themes are awesome. There's one that just got top ten in the smoke challenge. Perhaps you can shoot one for the complexity challenge. It fits the theme me thinks :-).
