Which photo captures the mood better?
Story Below
My family and I went out yesterday for a bit to eat while driving home I saw this homeless man park his buggy (home) next to the curb of a 5 lane road and walk slowly up the hill towards the drive-thru of a restaurant. I pulled over across the street and watched as he politely waited for the drive-thru to be clear and then knocked on the window. A worker their listens for a second then left the window open and stepped out of view. A few minutes latter she returned to the window with a meal and two large cups of water. The man politely nodded as he turned away and walked back to his buggy. He sat down on the curb of this busy road and began to eat and drink from a meal given to him in a time of need. I could not help but take my camera out and take a few pictures after all I was parked on the other side of the 5 lane road. Using a 12x (420mm) lens I was able to get this picture between cars. I cropped and used desaturation on the first photo second photo I auto leveled.
Thought I would share this picture and story.

I forgot to say that I like the image. I think the crop works well.

Partial desaturization looks tacky. Stick with the color one.

The color is definitely better. I thought the desaturated one looked like a statue!

I also like the color one better. Gives more impact to the person. Poor guy, nice that the restaurant gives him something to eat.

i think that you should take the second photo, and duotone it... It will add an emotional feeling to it and help neutralize some of the purple hazing and the intense highlights.

I agree ... I might even try a "cool" color (like a light blue or cyan) as the second color. |

Thanks for all the advice everyone. I am learning PS7 and trying everyone's suggestions. If anyone has any other suggestion, please comment. I was told today that he goes to that restaurant most everyday and they provide him with food. Not throwaway but a meal like you and I would enjoy. When I was told this I was speechless, I know I̢۪m nothing more than an amateur photographer but I would like to get this picture right so I can have it printed. I want to present it to the manager of this restaurant so he/she will always remember the difference he/she and the other workers have made in one mans life. |
