Yes, it is true, but it can also add to an image - I guess you have some 'bad' examples?
My pet hate is with adding the challenge title into the submission title.

Well I think that a tittle is intimatly link to the art, if Picasso had called "Mona Lisa" , "lady with hands crossed"...it may not have been as impactful.
Photography is markteting...every things counts.
as for the Challenges well if I can't make the link between the Title and the Image, I consider that to be a weakness.

Maybe you aren't looking closely enough at the photo?

ΓΆ€ΒΆ Picasso never painted anything called 'Mona Lisa", daVinci, however, did.
ΓΆ€ΒΆ I agree, everything does count, yet if Photography was marketing, I wouldn't be looking at it.

Actually, DaVinci painted a photo called "La Giaconda" -- it aquired the other name later ...
... and since it was (probably) a commissioned portrait, "marketing" considerations were probably low on the priority list when deciding on the title anyway.
Still, I believe in adding good/relevant titles!

Somewhere I read that "La Giaconda" was the 16 year old bride of a nobleman, hence the self satisfied smile at the 'good catch'!
Don't know how true that may be, but it fits! |

often my titles are my own interpretation of my shot. I understand that others may not see what I do but often there is little room ofr voters to consider this.
Titles can add a wonderful dimension to the interpretation of a shot. if the voter does not get it than they vote accordingly. It's a hit or miss kinda sitation. Not much anyone can do about it.

real quotes!
"OK, first pass was a 3! because I didn't have any idea what this was...."
"at first I didn't understand what I was looking at..."
THE TITLE REALLY COUNTS SOMETIMES!!!!
HAHAHA
(I'll post my photo after the challenge with a new title, and ask for comments)
I think I'll have a lot of 1-3's and 7-10's with few 4-6's (just a guess now)

Well Eric, I do look closely at the photo, in fact, on your image "Secret Garden" I left a comment which you can look at to see what I felt on the matter.
as for titles, I still consider them part of the "whole" package.
Regarding my "mistake" on Monalisa...I do apologise....I was a bit to quick to post.
