I have some questions to the members challenge editing rules.
I have an Image I want to use, but the background I used has a couple of nasty creases in it. How can I get rid of these legally.
The easiest option is to select the byckground with the wand, and then do Gausian blur.
The next option is to select the background and use the blur tool.
Lastly there is the option of cloning or using the healing stamp.
What is legal, and what is not? Are you allowed to use the wand to select an area (without making a layer) and thus make it easier to correct this.
Is Blur allowed?

As far as I am aware any of these options is acceptable for members challenges.

Any of the above are legal editing options under the advanced editing rules. However, as I understand it, there is no way to know ahead of time if the degree you use the techniques will be considered against the 'spirit of the rules', as that is decided at DQ time by a majority vote on a case by case basis.

Use any editing option that changes the 'feel' (can't think of a better word) of the image with extreme caution.

This similar thread discussed a similar question.

They are all allowed Pete. Go for the healing tool for creases, it works best!

I gotta agree with kiwiness, the healing tool whoudl be your best bet. Any/all of the techniques are legal, BTW.

Sorry to burst in, but didn't want to open a new thread for the same question...

So how about the open challenges? Is hue/saturation allowed?
Also, could anyone please explain to me what might USM & SFW stand for?
Thanks a lot!

Yes, Hue/Saturation is legal for Basic Editing (Open) challenges. USM stands for "unsharp mask," a method of sharpening. SFW (or SfW) stands for "save for web."

Thanks Garry & Fritz. I worked out that the healing tool was best after hours of messing around trying to do it with Blur. Ended up getting all sorts of posterization. The healing tool definitley works well on creases.

Is skewing allowed?

In advanced editing I believe so, but I have been wrong before. ;) In any event, it would be really easy to go overboard on it.

Under basic rules no (previous thread).

Yes, it's allowable, but only in advanced editing. It should be used with subtlety. Any technique that distorts a photo in an extreme, arbitrary fashion and takes the work into the realm of digital art risks a DQ. There is no well-defined line here, but asking yourself if the result of the skew is a photograph with more impact, rather than an artwork based on a photograph, should be a good guide.
