Noone huh? I figured that someone in here had a jump on it? I may be selling my 10d? I am sure some people would be interested in that?

LOL Brian - I wasn't taking it that way at all!

I hope to have mine soon =)

Yes I have mine.. and it's lovely. I sold my backup 10D to finance it.(Sorry not meaning to boast either but as Brian said, although I have never needed a backup I wouldn't like to be without one) Anyway, back to the 20D.. very, very nice. Initial thoughts.. Great resolution, improved dynamic range (over the 10D), good fps and very little image noise but a lot louder that the 10D in terms of shutter/mirror. Not in the same class as the 1DMk2 but you wouldn't expect it at that price point. Looking forward to giving it a proper workout soon.

For those interested... Here is a very hastily shot at full pixel size & CS Save for Web at 60% of my (one-eared) cat (Sorry), Nina. Shot using the 100mm 2.8 Macro, 1/60th @ f/8. Shot pretty close so a fairly shallow DoF but you can see the fur detail around the eyes and mouth. Warning, still a 1.5mb image!

Woot! What an incredibly sharp image Dan! Resolution down to the single pixel. What else would you expect from the 100 Macro, I guess. The 20D is sooooo tempting for just the AF improvement alone.
I'm forcing myself to wait thru Photokina, though, to see if anything else interesting pops up...

Damn! That's sharp!! And that poor cat looks sooo pissed - LOL! Mine take on that expression too much of the time.

Are all your pics with that lens that sharp? Do tell!!

I see Dan's gone offline... In my experience, yes, the 100 macro is one of the sharpest lenses in the Canon stable. Since he shot at f/8, he also shot right in the "sweet spot." But the 100/2.8 Macro is pretty darn sharp even wide open. That's one reason why it's a great portrait lens (along with the awesome bokeh).

I'm back (briefly) it's 2:00 am with me and I was awoken by my Microwave deciding to turn itself on a cook for 13 minutes for no reason whatsoever.. isn't tecnhnology wonderful.

Anyway, as kirbic rightly said the 100mm 2.8 Macro is pretty sweet even wide open. I also love the 24-70L and the 70-200L on both bodies, but that prime is hard to beat. The AF improvement on the 20D is noticeable but it's hard to tell compared to the Mk2, that thing could focus on coal at midnight. I also like the new AF point layout and the auto-selection of AF point is much better, the neat little thumb joystick on the back can be used to select your AF point too, much more logical.

You'd probably look pissed too if you had one ear! :0) She's a sweetheart.

Well, back to bed.. barring anymore ghosts in the machine.
