No joke!

I was at my ranch a while back, and as always while walking along I try and see any tracks in the mud/dirt/whatever to see what might have passed thru at some point recently.

Deer tracks here, racoon there, cows, nothing out of the ordinary.

Then I came across one I couldn't directly identify. I whipped out my camera phone and snapped a shot (see below). The track was 3-4" wide by 4-5" long. What could it be?

Bobcat? Don't think so, it was way to big for that. Dog? Possibly. Mountain Lion? I know they exist out here, but have never seen a track or anything from them.

Ok, so out to the internet I go. A quick "mountain lion track identifying" search in Google led me to Cooper's Rock Mountain Lion Sanctuary.

According to their identification page, it indeed looks like I have one looming around somewhere near the ranch.

Take a look at their web site and make your own assumptions...

I've shot them an e-mail asking their assistance on it. I'll post again when they reply.

Here's the picture I mentioned...

I would have said Cougar/Puma/Mountain Lion myself.. certainly has the tell-tale outward pointing "toes", and it's quite deep as well. You have any Lynx in the area at all? (I didn't look to see where you were from).

Lynx? Hmmm...don't know if they are around this area.

BTW: I'm in central Texas.
