I read a lot on this forum, and now I think it's time to buy myself a polirisation filter.
I just don't know what the difference is between a Circular or Linear polarisation filter...
So I'm asking here :) |

| Digital camera will only work correctly with the circular polarizer. |

Most require one. There are few which do not (i.e. Sony 717). A circular polarizer, however, will work on all of them, including the F717.

It's not just digital cameras. SLR's (Film AND Digital) with an autofocus system require a Circular Polarizer or else auto focus is not functional.

| So this makes the choice easy :) |

| I wonder if only SLRs require circular polarizers? Because the F717 is NOT an SLR, and according to zeuszen it works with a linear polarizer. Probably because non-SLRs do their focusing from other sensors while SLRs need to focus thru-the-lens (TTL). |

The linear polarisers affect the capacity for evaluative autofocusing systems to work, it's a frequency shift thing....

I'm not an expert, but understand that linear works via contrast detection focusing a la Sony. The circulars work with the phase detection focusing systems found on SLRS. They are more expensive than the linear and offer no real benefit over the linear on systems which do not require them.
Perhaps, someone else can articulate this better than I.

100% percent right.
both systems deliver the exact same performance.
