I have a pic for my first submission to a Members challenge and I need to be sure if I can delete items from the background in the pic.....I would say its almost spot editing but a little bit bigger. Is this allowed? Please advise.
PS I did search the forum but wasn't able to answer my question fully. I think I can just need to be sure. Thanks

You may. If you drastically change the appearance of the shot, even by using selective brightening/darkening techniques to actually alter the shot, you might get into trouble, but it will be a matter of judgement from the SC. basically, keep the 'photographic integrity' idea in mind, and you'll be OK.

OK, I'm a little confused now. I have just seen a FairyTale submission dq'd (from 92nd place) for removing large elements of the picture. I understood the rules to say that as long as you applied the same changes to the entire image then it was acceptable. Apart from the fact I (currently) suffer from dark monitor syndrome the rules say I can dodge/burn, clone/repair in small areas as much as I want to but cannot shift the brightness bar too far to the right or left?

I'm confused also.
It says here:
"Cloning, dodging, and/or burning to remove imperfections and minor distracting elements is permitted, however using tools to duplicate, create, or move major elements of your photograph is not."
the key part in this discussion being "remove... minor distracting elements" is totally relative to each person. What I find to be distracting might not be distracting to someone else right? And who determines if it's a "major element"?

The determination is made by a majority vote of Site Council.
