1) Emotive -- Compose your image to convey an emotional impact.

(I saw it was mentioned, but I had a different discription in mind)
2) White on White -- High key is predominantly bright, but not necessarily white; but in this companion to the Black on Black challenge the background and foreground should be should be predominantly white. What those highlights. :D

3) Music -- Music is all around us. Create an image that does not contain a music producing element (such as an instrument or headphones) but, by the use of compositional elements (such as form and motion) make the viewer swear they can hear the music from a purely visual medium.

Junk Food - Photograph should depict your interpretation of junk food.

Layers - Photograph objects stacked, piled or layered over other objects

Facial Expressions - Photograph interesting facial expressions. Photograph can NOT include people.

I like that one, I have some squirrels on my patio that have great expressions!

Another idea:
Idiosyncratic-Take a photo that illustrates how annoying (or endearing) little habitual behaviors can be.

These are from the list of challenges I have already proposed (some months back):

Peace
Take an image that conveys harmonious relations, reconciliation, inner contentment or serenity.

<>

Black and White
Reduce the world to a palette of grays and focus on light, shade, line, texture and form.

Moods
Take a portrait that captures an emotion.

What a great thread. There are some really awesome ideas here people. Nice job.

Here's mine:

Musical Instruments- Make a creative composition using any musical instrument as your main subject. (I've seen some awesome shots in other challenges, I would love to see a whole challenge)

Romance- Create an image that conveys the exciting feeling of a budding new love or a romantic event, for example; a marriage proposal, first kiss, holding hands, etc.

Something Special- Make a creative composition of something near and dear to YOUR heart. Please no children, pets, or significant others, we know those are all special.

Gladiator Suits- Portrait of your favorite model or models in gladiator suits. Bonus points if they look like Antonio Banderas or Russel Crowe.

I would suggest something such as Fall Colors since its about that time of the year. Maybe even give it a month long study.

Photojournalism - I need practice in this area and I really liked the "newspaper" challenge.

I would also like to see a Pop Art challenge. Andy Warhol Rocked!

Sounds like great idea's if you ask me. Maybe even a Death challenge. After all, Death is part of Life.

Do you mean the boxes into which we put letters to be mailed or the boxes into which the postal service deliver mail? If it's the latter, we don't have those in the UK really...

Greeting Card. Create a card that depicts the Thanksgiving holiday. text okay. Turkeys are not.

TG is a uniquely American celebration, and whilst non-Americans could enter a faked entry, it would be nice to have a more general description for Greeting Card which would make it more open to international entrants.

Although it might be a little harsh on any members in the Southern Hemisphere!

Hmmm, I answered this, hit post and my answer went away, so will try again (maybe the forum mailcarrier went walkabout for a minute):

Mailboxes might mean the official postal box at the corner, the ranks of them in postoffices, or (where they exist) in homes or businesses where a mailcarrier might deliver to.

Kavey, gotta ask: How do you get your mail if lettercarriers don't deliver it to some sort of receptacle?

Agreed. I thought of Equinox Day or Solstice Day as something with many angles of photographic interest but fairly universal and described it a few posts back... In a later post, Trinch pointed out that there is a society that celebrates these days and prints a card. But I don't think there is much competition for this "holiday".

Most of us have letterboxes in the front doors of our homes... :o)
They are basically just rectangular holes in the door and usually have a metal flap over them to stop the weather getting in!

Aha! Gives you just about the whole house/apartment to work with then! (That's pretty much what mine looks like too.)

Actually the letterbox idea intriges me. There are some great examples around where I live. I have often thought of trying to photograph them.

What I'd love is a doors challenge - either whole doors or door knobs, knockers, bells, letterboxes or other door decor.

That would be cool!

I agree, doors would make a great challenge!
I also like the set of "darker" challenges suggested earlier, it would make a nice contrast to the general "good vibe" of the challenges.
