Hello-hello!

Does anyone know if ONLY the IS version of the Canon 70-200 2.8L has the 8 blade circular aperture as opposed to the non-is version?

Thanks for any info!

I've seen this debated before, and 90+% sure that both versions have the 8-blade aperture diaphragm. I looked on the Canon site, but the new site has less info in the specs section. Grrrr.

According to the lens chart( //consumer.usa.canon.com/app/pdf/lens/EFLensChart.pdf ), both lenses use an 8 blade aperture. I can't find confirmation on Canon's site, but I'd assume they are also both circular as well.

Ahh, good find, I forgot about that chart!

Jello! I have this lens and it almost always stays on my camera along with the 24-70 2.8L! I was first introduced to it by a relative whose photos had incredibly gorgeous bokeh. Long story short he had said that it was only a special characteristic of the IS model only and, at the time at least, it was considered a 'new' premium feature. When I purchased the lens the seller also reassured me of this, because I wasn't really in need of the IS and I didn't want to spend the extra several hundred. I went through the canon website and found this:

//www.canon.com/camera-museum/tech/report/200109/report.html

It actually shows that there is a difference between the IS and Non-IS models side by side.

Well worth buying, gelatainous one!

Hi all!

Thank you all for your help, haven't been online in a bit and I noticed eddyg had also been very kind enough to email "allisyntec"'s link too. Thank you again, looks like it's time to start saving those pennies for the IS! :\
