We're buying a point and shoot for my brother who has moved to Toronto to begin working with an organization called Urban Promise.
We're looking to spend about $300 Canadian ($220US) on the camera and after doing a quick review of what's available, I seem to think that the best bet would be a Kodak CX7430 because of the zoomable lens and the continuous movie mode. I think he'll also enjoy the [16]MB internal memory.
The Olympus D-580 doesn't look too bad either...
What do you guys think is the best value at that price point?
Edit: The Kodak has 16MB of internal memory, not 32MB.

I am prejudice - I really think Kodak makes an excellent product. If it were me, I would look at their line and see what fits price-wise. Good luck and let us know what you decide!

I'd say the Canon A75 (about $210) or A80 (about $250).

If you could help me find an A80 for $250 I'd buy it right now!

Yeah, from what I can find, $250 is the going rate for an A75 and $300 for the A80. |

The first listing jumps to 279 when it's clicked...also the store hasn't been verified...
I called the company that was offering them for $259 and they said it is not available and the company no longer stocks them...go figure.
Any of the others ($287 and up) will be much closer to $300 with shipping.
I figured an A80 for $250 was too good to be true because I would definately go for that one at that price...I have an A40 and I've been very happy with it so the A80 would've been perfect.
Anybody else have any thoughts on p&s cameras in the $200 - $240 price range?

I had been shopping for these cameras several weeks ago and the original proces I posted were from my recollection then. I beleive the A80 has been canceled which has made it go up in price.
As for Butterfly, I have bought from them and have nothing but nice things to say about them. I'm not sure what 279 you are referring to, it says:
Canon PowerShot A75
User-friendliness and convenience are high priorities with the PowerShot A75, yet the camera also boasts a 3.2 Megapixel CCD and a host of advanced features. The camera\'s 3.2 Megapixel CCD creates beautifully detailed
Our Price: $197.00
Availability: Yes

When I said that the first one's price jumped up when I clicked it, I was referring only to the A80 link. The first line on the list said $249 but once I clicked it, the price jumped to $279.
I will look into the A75, thanks for the links! I hope I didn't seem ungrateful, it's just that I was skeptical about getting an A80 for $250...thanks again, louddog!

The A75 is $214 and the A85 is $266- each with free second-day shipping at zipzoomfly.com, which is a highly-rated retailer. |
