This was my 'framing' entry, I'm really pleased with the pic.

I'm putting it forward for discussion becuase I thought it was interesting how it received such a mix of crop vs don't crop comments.

I feel that I caught what I wanted in the pic, a pure raw street scene with such a simple focus on the bicycle, I looked at cropping the image but it just murders the rawness of the image.

Anyway, more input and discussion is certainly desired, so please do say what you think

Thanks

Darren

Just something quick....I thought if in any way the frame had been more in focus, the image would have been stronger because it is a little bit frustrating to see that there are interesting textures, but that they are not in focus. Don't know if that was possible, but still a great image.

It's a good image, but I think it would have been better if you and the frame had been lower to include the people wholly in the frame as well as the bicycle. I'm sorry I didn't rate it higher, though.

I have a couple of rejects:

I think that I chose the right one :)

I like how you cropped it, and it was one of my favorites of the challenge.

I would have liked it a little better if the frame actually framed some random person walking by. But the bike works well too.

Good Job,
I wish you placed higher!

I liked this shot so much that I actually downloaded it and cropped it during the challenge just to have a look. Here is what I came up with.

As I mentioned in my comment during the challenge I think that this crop cuts out most of the overexposure at the top and the women's face to the right which draws away from your subject and doesn't add anything. I still scored it a "9" and thought it would have finished much higher.

I fully apprecate what your saying Doug, I tried a similar crop myself, and I'm pretty damn certain that it would have scored higher with this crop as it brings the frame into prominence. My feeling though was that having the additional chaos and imperfections made the shot more classic and subtle.

Thinking about it though, maybe I should have enter the best for the challenge and kept my personal preference for later discussion :)

I like it better with the crop.
