Please be advised the results of the "Framing" challenge have been recalculated due to a disqualification. The image previously in 39th place was disqualified due to an editing violation (use of selection tool to select a non-rectangular area for cropping).

i put up the border i used in my portfolio...
as i said when i uploaded my original, i cut out a rectangular version of the picture, then i created a border that would fit tightly around my picture.
to create the border i had to use the "selection tool to select a non-rectangular area for cropping", but it wasnt done on the actual photo. it was just used to create the border i wanted. once my border was ready, i just placed it on the image, and it did exactly what i wanted, it removed all the unwanted stuff from around my frame. but no spot-editing was done to my pic, and i didnt touch it with a selection tool.
So i dont see how its illegal. i had the editing rules open next to me the whole time to make sure that what i was doing was ok...
for those who want to see it, its in my profile... |

The disqualified image suffers a further violation, in that it is a composite of two images, one being the subject and the other a separately generated frame! |

Yup, a selection tool was used, and two images were used. A double DQ.

Thats a pity Piotr, being dq'd for your border but I think in basic editing any changes you make need to be made to the entire image. Can you upload the pic before the border was added? As with the now cliched water on glass with flag etc underneath we will be seeing many variations on this original idea.

a frame is really a second image?
if so, then ill agree with the DQ. its just ive been waiting since last wednesday to hear from the SC (thats when they requested it), and then they finally DQed it today with not much explanation. |

did you PRINT OUT the picture and then do the cutting? I'm curious because that is almost what you seem to be saying.

Frames, in themselves, are not disqualifying elements. But yours was generated as a separate image, then pasted onto your subject.
The SC has been very forgiving in the past, allowing frames to be used in basic editing contests. But those were simple rectangular frames, usually done by drawing a line around the image.
However,I have seen other (basic editing) images with more complex frames, such as vignettes, that the SC refused to DQ. Guess they have to draw the line somewhere! |

I don't understand why it was DQ'd and this one wasn't:

I see no apparent rules violation in this image. But if you thought there was a violation, why did you not request DQ on the image during voting?

Wow, I'm excited! This may be the first thread where someone else posted/referenced me or a pic of mine. Yay! =]
