A November win by Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry would put the United States at risk of another "devastating" terrorist attack, Vice President Dick Cheney told supporters Tuesday.

Cheney told Republican supporters at a town hall meeting in Des Moines that they needed to make "the right choice" in the November 2 election.

"If we make the wrong choice, then the danger is that we'll get hit again -- that we'll be hit in a way that will be devastating from the standpoint of the United States," Cheney said.

Is the Cheney (I won't even call it the Bush) administration threatening us with another attack?
sure seems like it

CNN "the most trusted name in news"

um, I mean hollywood

yes,

It's a script to keep us all blind and dumb.

I really don't see much difference in the 2 parties.

It's too bad we don't really have a choice anyways.

Democracy.

What's that anyways?

last I heard it was "For the people, by the people"

not

"for the rich, by the rich"

but who am I anyways?

just another peasant who has to struggle to put food on the table.

Just your average ordinary person.

It's a strange time we live in.

Uh, complete the quote please:

"...that we'll be hit in a way that will be devastating from the standpoint of the United States, and that we'll fall back into the pre-9/11 mind-set, if you will, that in fact these terrorist attacks are just criminal acts and that we are not really at war."

In case you missed the class in grammer where the discussed the use of the word "and", it's very important to understanding the context of a sentence. In this case, the danger he is warning of is that if/when we get hit, if Kerry is in office, Kerry will respond in the same style as Clinton, treating it not as an act of war, but as a criminal act to be prosecuted in courtrooms. If you can get Bin Laden to answer the supena...

And you question whether they're biased??? First they lead off the story with this line: "Vice President Dick Cheney on Tuesday warned Americans about voting for Democratic Sen. John Kerry, saying that if the nation makes the wrong choice on Election Day it faces the threat of another terrorist attack." Then they chop his quote up and use it out of context to support the lead line. How can you believe these people?

edit: BTW, my source was the Washington Post. They butchered the context in their lead paragraph as well, but at least had the decency to include the remainder of the quote in the second paragraph.

ScottK,

In Des Moines, Cheney went beyond previous restraints to suggest that the country would be more vulnerable to attack under Kerry. "It's absolutely essential that eight weeks from today, on November 2nd, we make the right choice, because if we make the wrong choice then the danger is that we'll get hit again," the vice president said, "that we'll be hit in a way that will be devastating from the standpoint of the United States, and that we'll fall back into the pre-9/11 mind-set, if you will, that in fact these terrorist attacks are just criminal acts and that we are not really at war."

and I thought John Edwards response was right on:

Edwards told reporters that "Dick Cheney's scare tactics crossed the line."
"What he said to the American people was that if you go to the polls in November and elect anyone other than us, and another terrorist attack occurs, then it's your fault," Edwards said during a stop in Chillicothe, Ohio.
"This is un-American. The truth is that it proves once again that they will do anything and say anything to keep their jobs."
Edwards said a Kerry administration "will keep the American people safe, and we will not divide the country to do it."

1) That wasn't the original link you posted. My point about bias in your original link still stands.

2) If you thought Edwards response was "right on", then you support a lie. That's not what Chenney said, John Edwards lied and misrepresented the statement for the purpose of spreading hatered, and proved that Kerry/Edwards are desparate and will do anything to get elected. And why is it that Democrats always whine about being labeled as unpatriotic (usually when they haven't been), but are constantly going around calling republicans unamerican??? What hypocracy. No wonder the Kerry campaign is failing.
