Hey,
I just installed Microsoft Office 2004, and somehow, the font in safari changed, and I can no longer see bolded or italicized print on websites.
I went to preferences in safari, but nothing has changed there.
It wouldn't be so bad if I could see italicized and bolded stuff. I don't really care about the font. Anyone know what could have happened? |

Hmm, I haven't used those, but I've heard appleworks sucks from one of my friends.
The older Microsoft Office I had worked perfectly. I'm still in school so I'm using it constantly. Excell too, and I have internship where there's lots of back and forth of documents going through word and excell so I really need it. I don't know if there really is another good alternative.
I just don't understand how installing that would change web browsing settings. |

I don't know anything about this problem, but my first step would be to see if there is an update on Microsoft's web site that deals with this. If not, then I would see if it's a known issue at //www.apple.com/support/. Good luck!

I didn't seen anything, but I'll take another look over it in the morning.
Thanks! |

Well, I just deleted the new version and kept the old one. I can see italicized stuff now. I don't understand, but I'm over it.
Thanks for the help! |

Microsoft likes to integrate things and take over your computer. I figured it must have installed a font that was taking over. Not sure if uninstalling the program would fix it, but apparently did. Usually the font would be left over. Hmmmmm.
Appleworks isn't that bad. I have used it for eons (when it was ClarisWorks) and made alot of great things and "programs" to use for Nursing school. Now the schools teach with only a specific program (almost always Microsoft), so hard to get around it. I have a coworker whos son is going to school to be a pilot and they MAKE them "rent" a laptop and software from the school every semester. It is a REQUIREMENT. I understand the software, but the laptop? They tried to tell her that it had to have special requirements. I told her, yeah, that you pay THEM $750 a semester for the laptop and don't get to keep it after the year is up! Some hardware dealer is making out like a bandit!! |

I use Office for Mac all the time. It's a great program and it's nice to be able to open attachments from PC folks. I don't know why it would change your Safari fonts, that's strange. I don't have a special font program, by the way, and haven't had problems like this. Probably not very helpful, but wanted to put in a recommendation for Office.

For quick notes, lists etc, I use TextEdit -for everything else AppleWorks. I've laid out highly formatted books, magazines, brochures, chapbooks with AppleWorks and never saw a need for anything else.
I image, what happened here is that Mircrosoft Office installed or attempted to install duplicate fonts or corrupt ones. Perhaps you could scan for corrupted fonts and delete them.
With issues like these, it's often more trouble to diagnose the source of a problem than to archive and re-install your OS.
